Audio - connecting amp to speakers

Ok. This will probably sound like a really stupid question and might be really obvious when I come to do it but don't want to waste my time or anything so thought I might as well ask.

How do you connect the am to the speakers? Do you basicallyhave the wires going From the amp to each speaker or do the wires go from the amp to the speaker connections behind the stereo or what?

Pictures or diagrams etc would be mint.

For info it's a carpc I'm wanting to connect up.

hello mate. basically, you've got to

1 wire a positive live from the battery to the amp

2 wire the amp to the head unit via rca's and a remote cable

3 wire the ground to some clean unpainted metal, ussually the rear light earth point.

4 wire each speaker you want powered to the amp

5 sit back and enjoy

Thanks mate. So the amp would need to be wired to each individual speaker with the speaker wires yeah? Rather than those a normal head unit would use?

yep. once you've done it once you realise how easy it is. probably the hardest part is getting the power lead through from the engine bay into the car.

if you were closer to me i would happily do it for you, i've fitted so many in the past, i've lost count.

infact my zed is the only car i have ever owned that i haven't put a massive system in straight away.

the beemer tourer i had last year had a 4000w system in the back!

I've just never done it before, never had a carpc either so a bit unsure what I'm doing.

Can't the live come from anywhere?

The Live has to be a single cable direct from the battery to the amp. its not too hard to do, there's a hole under the near side wheel arch, then just run it under the carpet and behind the rear seats. Its not as difficult as it seems. then the Rca leads run on the other side behind your pedals and then under the drivers door to the boot. not too sure about a carpc though. never played with one of them before.
