It only started yesterday, at about 2k-2.5k revs i get a big flat spot/holding back effect, almost like fuel starvation. Over 2.5k and under 2k revs its fine. Before i rig up datascan has anyone had a similar experience? i might even have a fault on injector 1, which may just be the plug/loom to that injector, which is affecting the revs. Idles a little lumpy and getting smoke when i boot it.

All seem to be linked to a dodgy maf as a wrong air reading will also cause the above, so might be looking for another maf, but seriously thinking about a brand new one as im on my second maf in 5years.

Cheers

It has been wet here, but never affected the car before, took her out today and the same thing happened, the filter didnt feel wet when i had a look yesterday.

my z was doing the same a little while back. everyone on here said it sounded like the maf, so i took it off cleaned it up, put it back on and it made no difference what so ever.

I then took it to a local auto electrician, thinking it was going to cost a fortune. after an hour or so of him poking around, it turned out to be a loose connection (i think it was on 1 of the coilpacks or somewhere around there on the top left hand side of the engine).

i didn't understand how it caused the engine to run so bad, but he said that when it f**ks up, the ecu makes the engine run in safe mode.

i'm not mechanically minded so i have to take his word on this.

Similar problem not so long back.

turned out to be a dirty connection. Jeff at z world cleaned and re fitted it and all was good.

Also, a little trick I picked up recently with regards to cleaning the hot wire within the MAF, as most will know, at idle and when the engine is turned off, the wire is heated to around a 1000 deg's for a short while so as to burn off any contamination. However, when the engine is up to temp', hold the rev's at 3000rpm and then switch the ignition off, this cleans the wire even better. I did this a little while back and my mpg has improved dramatically. Not to mention my hot starting.

Nice tip there, have some rep :)

There is a special cleaner which you can use forget name but if that is your preferable solution I will find out. It is the only type that will not damage the electric sensors.

Second option is supplier of new ones. I located a supplier on line who sold me a new one with warranty for my Mercedes for £22.00 + postage. My Mercedes guy scoffed at it and said it would never work. One from Mercedes is £365 + Vat. Guess who is laughing now, 5 minute fitments and better than the factory one.
