Gents

Just been stopped for my reg. DEW1 4P

The 1 was 10mm too close to the dew

Now no warning given just a straight 60quid fine but what got me was he said was

That he had to report the reg to the dvla and they could fine me now for 1k and take my number off me

Will this happen even though its my first offence?

Thanks

its only down to the traffic police these days being not much more than tax colectors .....we are the easy soft option to get their score cards up is a general harrasment of decent people over stupid motoring "offences" the fine over the plate is to ensure the vehicle plate recognition system can pick you out for no tax or insurance or whatever if ever you are in that position you shouldnt be driving anyway ...a missaligned number confuses the system and they flag up plate not recognised ...again its so they can stealth tax us on already over priced road tax , and motor insurance , normal bobbies are fine walking the beat and house to housing but most traffic police are like the sheriff of notingham.....and attitude !! where do they learn that particular little character flaw ...the reason they have flaps on the shoulders of their jackets is to keep the chips under ..evenly balanced a chip on each one..... that being said i have met a few decent ones who do use common sense....unfortunatley the majority spoil it for the minority ...

I think you you get done for a numberplate offence three times dvla can withdraw your reg and issue you with a Q reg.thats what used to happen, not sure if its changed.

Pretty sure you will not hear anymore about it.

There are different gap spacing laws regarding the 1's, they will do you for a missing dust cap next if they get a directive

My front number plate was small, previous owner put it on, it was way too small and I knew it but they chased me down the motorway with blues to pull me over and do me £60, got there little ruler out, I was nice and said I did have another and would pop it on, waste of time, they still did me :surrender:

Firstly it relies on the traffic police reporting it to the DVLA. They hate paper work so that likelhood of that is low.

If they do you will receive a letter from the DVLA informing you that you plate has been noted incorectly displayed and warning to rectify it. If you are stopped again they may consider recalling the plate.

My wife was stopped in our car for a mis-spaced plate. All the letters correct size and legal font, just where the space was. We paid the £60 fine and havent heard anything further. The plate hasn't been changed either :shifty:

Seems simple to me... don't break the law and you won't get fined. If I get a ticket for speeding, I can't complain that the officer didn't give me a warning first. Personally, if I was so keen for every one to know my name, I'd get it tattoed on my forehead :-) DVLA are hypocrites tho - it's like saying to a child "OK, here take the water pistol - but I don't want you to squirt anyone with it!" Amount of money they make from selling private registrations must be huge?
