Anyone ever considered doing this to their car?

This owner of this 300zx wanted a bit of a different look and contacted us about a colour change wrap. Now we are 3M certified we tend look to use the 3M films as much as possible, and so this customer chose the 3M metallic anthracite for the car.

On arrival : The owner had bought some new front wings and side skirts and asked us to fit them.. no problem! He'd also asked us to sort out a few bodywork bits and pieces to get the wrap looking it's best. Again, this was no problem, but did mean the car was in need of wrapping when it was straight!

That does look very nice from a distance, pic one where it's close up looks like orange peel that you get on paint and with it be vinyl there would be bugger all you could do about it.

seen that before, I'd consider it if it wasnt £1500 lol

well, the wrap seals the car, if there is any water under there, which would cause rust, the wrap would have bubbles. - fortunately water cant get under the wrap. trying to get my head around the targa drain holes though. not sure if it would provide a weak spot in the wrap or not.

I was thinking of maybe a candy apple red wrap - much cheaper than a respray, which is fully reversible, and protects the original paintwork underneath anyway.

also, no problems getting a colour match if it was to get ripped etc, as you can just change a panel. It is normally guaranteed against rips and tears as it is pretty strong. but if someone was to key it and rip it, wouldnt take much to put right if that makes any sense.

Plus candy apple red, is still red, so no need to inform DVLA if I get my door shuts and bonnet etc done at the same time.

Matte Carbon:

i see im not the only one with those wings who also looks like his wheels are too small, its defiantly a odd arch on that wing.

That does look good though, but doesn't it have a life span before having to be done again?

the hexis vinyls have a 10 year guarantee not to fade or peel.

which when you look at it, is better than any garage will offer you on a respray...

I am gonna get this done to my 300, either this year or next. I cannot pay for a respray that; costs a fortune and after 1-2 years turns out shite. I am a firm believer that wrapping is the future for all vehicle exterior finishes............

Alz.

wrap is carp :) i`ve done my bonnet in matt carbon and it`s not the same like real thing for a start ... and it so hard to clean it ... i wouldn`t recomend it

Cars that I have personally seen wrapped are far less than impressive close up! Some serious fading issues after a year or so too.

I am sure there are varying qualities like everything else but not for me from what I have seen!

Hi Rolandos,

Car is looking good :D

My question is, which brand of wrap did you use? and being carbon effect, I'd assume its textured, hence hard to clean?

I have a friend who had a white 3M carbon wrap on their roof, and looked stunning. Not like real carbon, but stunning in its own right :)

We,ve had a fair few vans in our place that have been wrapped that , and on all of them the vinyl starts to lift in the corners where it,s had to be heated to conform to the tight shapes , the yinyl is a type of thermoplastic that once contoured into the complex curves of a car body is heated to a specific temperature and that should now set the vinyl to that shape permanantly but i,ve still seen alot that,s had lifting or shrinkidge in the tight inside corners .Also if you get a scuff on it it doesn,t polish out like it would on paint .

As you can tell i,m not a fan i think a good paint job is far better and if the body and prep is done correctly should last the life of the car , there,s a lot of cars on here that are 20 plus years old and are still in there original paint , could you imagine what a wrap would look like after only a couple of years ! Only my opinion of course .:D

Yeh, as JoelyP Says, ex-member Funkyboogaloo used to run a Wrapping business (but not any more), and thats Coopers-swb car.

I had initially considered it for the slicktop, but quotes were coming it at about the same or more than a Full respray cost.

3M carbon wrap. A member on this forum done it for me just for the price of material :) He can do the whole car for 600£. The other thing with wraping is that car has to be perfect with no dents scraches basicaly like new :) otherwise u`ll see every inperfection and you not gonna be able to polish it out :)

Not for me, quality of is awful, looks like a paint job done with rattle cans by a rank amateur. A cars body work should have a deep gloss and reflect like a mirror.
