Help!!

Help, I've just had a gearbox fitted and in the process the mechanic has snapped a lead that was connected to the exhaust. The lead in question is a silvery looking thing and it looks like it goes to some sort of a sensor behind the catalytic convertor. It looks like there are four of them in total, Two for each pipe, one before and one after the cats. Now, after about 8 mins or so once the car is warm she is running as rough as rats, like the mixture is too rich or something. Can anyone out there tell me what this lead and sensor is? and the best way to fix it??

I thought these were just the exhaust temp. sensors. On upgraded exhausts these are completely done away with, so i would have though it was nothing to do with this.

these are the labda sensors are they not?

If so then yeah it will cause the mixture to be off, because the closed loop system will be open if one of them isnt connected.

I thought the Lambda sensors were attached to the turbo housings and the other leads were just attached to Cat temperature sensors...?

They're the cat temp sensors. Both of mine are stuck inside the car with no problems.

They may be tucked away but if they have been disconnected does this cause the problem because the reading would be out?

The ECU doesn't use the probes for anything apart from displaying the warning lamp on the dash when they get too hot.

One of mine had to be cut as it was rusted to the exhaust.

I'm pretty sure the mixture (lambda) on our cars is handled by the oxy sensors by the precats, but I could be wrong.
