that's how i just broke mine....... stuck a leaver bar right through it.... its all bent now...

i think ill fit the rest of the pulleys and see what we have at work once i put the engine back in...

Lol that's how most people try and get them off and just end up breaking things! Puller tool aint that expensive prob a tenner from halfords and would be a worthwhile buy if your doing the crank pulley as I hear they can be a real pig if its still a struggle you could always try some heat with a blow torch thatll def get it shifted!

crank main nut 24mm socket, breaker bar that reaches the cross member on the left hand side of the car (as you look at it), wedge the breaker bar against the cross member, and crank the engine once. not loads, that will undo the nut if the engine is just spinning. or if you have breaker bar long enough to reach the floor, wedge it against the floor.

crank nut is 24mm?

think mines been changed at some point then as it looks like 27-28mm.

mines a 91 auto TT JDM if it makes any difference

nvm you are correct, i was still reading marks post lol, yes it is 27mm not 28.

Geez much easier just to put the thing in gear to lock the engine. On screwdriver in the flywheel depending if you have box off. My 1/2 inch torque wrench does the crank nut easily. You will need a 2/3 legged puller to get the crank pulley off though. As for alternator one well i guess its easier while the belts are still on or i forget if there is a flat edge on the rear of the pulley to get a spanner on.

if its an auto, sticking it in gear or even park for that matter makes no difference. already tried that one when had to take my crank off the car. gearbox locks the rear wheels, but not the engine as the torque converter isnt locked up.

Also, takes 2 seconds to stick a long enough breaker bar on the nut and wedge it against the floor then crank the engine from the key to get it to start undoing the bolt.

****ing cowboy way of doing it i would never attempt such a crazy feat. Starter motor off and lock flywheel that way if its auto
