Exhausts

When I bought my Z it had (and still has) a single big bore tail-pipe which is on the right side of the rear. Of course the original exhaust, when the car was new, was split left and right.

From a purely 'looks' point of view the original looks much better, even if the exhausts themselves were s***.

I want to change my single to a double to balance the rear view. It's got to be stainless steel, and I'd prefer twin pipes. Any suggestions, costs, performance issues etc gratefully received.

Mongoose from GPS (contacts section on left) seem to be very popular on here!

Do they do the mongoose for a SWB these days?

HKS do a single pipe either side - I know cos I have one LOL. The exhaust you have currently sounds like the HKS super drager. You can see the exhaust I'm talking about on Rob_B's car here:-

I've got Remus Quad pipe set up. Stainless, sound lovely. Got them from www.elitedirect.com

I think that I have a pic under my rides.

I kept to a 2 each side to keep close to stock looks - as TopSquads said, a Mongoose. Sounds nice, stainless steel - tailpipes slightly larger than stock - appears to have better power but probably psychosomatic!

Andy,

The pic looks identical to mine - already on the car when I bought it and the receipt says HKS, fitted by TDi in Jan 98.

Since then the middle boxes have fallen apart due to the twisting action of the back boxes on the mounts.

Now the baffle pipes in the back boxes have rusted away and collapsed in on themselves!

Hope that doesn't upset you too much.

At the mo I'm running it with a straight-through middle section and hollow back boxes and it sounds WICKED.

A guy near Heathrow is bracketing up a lovely new shining pair of Stainless back boxes for me - £160 each plus the welding.
