OK thats it actually getting sick of this now.

Well having changed my fan clutch this morning everything was going great, thought id take the car out for a test to see if the new clutch fan would have a say in how hot my car got.

Drove to kettering, all of a sudden the gearbox decided it didn't want to change gear and for some reason my engine temp was very erratic, going from 84 to 103 then back down depending on if i was going around a corner or not.

so limped the car home, turned the engine off only to notice smoke and the smell of burning plastic coming from around the battery area of the engine. on closer inspection the cable tie holding the engine loom in place had snapped (most likely from age) and the burning smell was actually my engine loom cooking away on the passenger side turbo.

how pissed off am i at this very moment in time.

Now i really am considering selling / breaking her. getting sick to the hind teeth of repairing one thing after another with no let up in site.

So if anyone is interested drop me a PM with your offer, i wont lie about what needs doing to her but she does have a lot of good stuff, so serious offers only, she does have tax and test.

turbo hose water pipe split on u ...

yep, you can just see the offending pipe when the camera first focuses properly. still only have 1st and 2nd gears and reverse with no extra error codes as to why on the gearbox.

car is currently sitting out side smoking while it cools down, i think i have a spare pipe in the garage but its still going to be around 20 years old.

it could of been split and letting in air and been giving u the over heating probs as well

Most likely, i did complain not to long ago about hearing a bubbling noise down in that area just after id sorted out the radiator

yeah turbo pipe. I had to replace mine 4 years ago on my holliday lol!!!

I just bought some fuel pipe cut it to length and job done. Think its just a straight pipe iirc. just buy some new pipe only like £3 better than sticking on an old one that will crack when your struggleing to fit it.

havent fixed that one yet. need to tackle it tomorrow at somepoint. looks like its taxi's and busses for a few weeks till i get my manual box.

Where is the laguna?

dead

Any one know if the gear changing problem could be related to a dirty oil filter in the gearbox? im sure with a lock up solenoid fault, the clutch for the lock up in the torque converter is going to be spitting out a load of crap. wouldn't that clog the filter on the gearbox for the oil? not sure why that would stop it changing gear mind you. but just a thought.

A am not showing any extra error codes for the other solenoids, just the lock up one thats always been there.

Circled is the pipe that split, omg how much room do i NOT have to work with, ive got the old one off, but getting the new one on is a nightmare as i just dont have the hand space.

there is just about enuff room there but i would take off the upper turbo outlet pipe for light/sight/ & hand room

Ah this went of Dave`s zed when he came to get a part off me so ended up fixing it at the side of the road with a bit of new pipe i took out to him :)

i had to undo the pipe as it goes around the back of the engine, take off the brake slave cylinder and move that out of the way carefully, i then bent the pipe as it goes around the engine very carefully to a new location to make getting access too it easier. its all on now and not leaking.

Gear is still being a turd though. i have a sneaky suspicion that the gear box filter is blocked and thats also adding to my heat on the radiator.

u using standard auto cooler on the main rad .... .. u'd be better getting one on its own to mount on car ...

if u want i have one u can have ...

wont have to worry, if all goes to plan, should have my manual conversion here this sunday, then its just going to be a case of how fast can i fit it lol

Have you checked the auto fluid mate? I'm just wondering if it's overheated due to your cooling issues, might be the reason the box has suddenly given up..

Pulled the Gearbox dipstick out today and it was still nice and red from when we filled it up last time, unfortunatly the ODB nissan scantech will only give me the gearbox temp as volts rather than degree's C, but the gearbox isnt showing any solenoid faults apart from the lock up solenoid.

Id imagin if the gearbox filter is blocked it wouldnt show any faults, it will most likely be blocked due to the lock up solenoid failure making the lock up clutch in the gearbox break down as sometimes it feels like the torque converter just isnt putting the power down to the wheels, the engine revs up, but there is no significant "pick up" if you know what i mean.

Also yes, the gearbox is cooled via the main radiator. so if the gearbox is generating a lot of heat its going to transfer that to the main radiator.

I would put money on the filter being the problem with the gear box,

sounds as though it could be heavily contributing to your heating issues also.

Top marks for your tenacity by the way, hats off.

I have to admit id go mad if i had nothing to throw my dummy about over.

I think I know what you mean.

I will be making a start tonight on my right side outer hicas ball joint after making a bit of a hash of it the first time.

Actually looking forward to it in a bizarre sort of way.

Strange!

Looking forward to hearing how you get on with the hose repair, hope all goes well.
