Legality of removing a childseat in the rear of a 2+2?

Guys,

Im driving a ‘90 2+2 TT. Me and my little one love the car, the booster seat goes in the front and she comes out with me a lot of the time. Yet its not pratical when the wife needs to hop into the car too.

The booster seat however fits terribly in the back of the Zed, I mean I cant help but feel its more unsafe for her to use the seat, rather than use the stock seating/restraints that are there.

After surfing around, I saw an Australian driver having the same issue and he was able to get his car exempt from the childrens seats laws as they could see that it was much safer to seat the child without the booster device.

Heres some pics to show what I came across.

So what can we do here in the UK, can we get a similar exempt status over here? Any other ideas what I can do?

she does look a lot safer without the booster, have you tried googling it to see if there are any exemptions to the law regarding booster seats?.How tall is she mate, as if she is over 140cm tall she doesnt need a booster.........also have you tried one of those booster cushions (no backrest) that older children can use, as opposed to a full booster seat (base and backrest)???

This might sound daft.....but would an adult dwarf need a booster seat? (thats a genuine question :) )

I have, and have yet to find anything. which suprises me. I suspect something probably exists - i mean if they allowed it in Australia with their super-tight legislation, then im sure it would/should be allowed over here.

thats a very good point to make when inquiring. had never thought of it that way but i think it is a very valid point.

nah, law states certain height OR age, as soon as they are 12. they do not require a booster seat.

how old is your little girl, would most likely be better with a booster cushion as apposed to a seat depending on age, at the end of the day as long as the seat belt is covering her shoulder and across her belly so as not to cause MORE injury in the event of an accident. then you should be ok.

Oh, also as with my own children, Ive found you need a seat that is held in place by the car belts and have there own retaining system for the child so it stops it leaning about.

What would also help is if someone did a mold for the bottom of the seat to take out the "bucket" aspect of it and made it flat. this would allow us more options on car seats.

My car seats have a section that folds under it that sits nicely into the bucket seat to stop it flopping about. my children are 2 and 4 years old so im stuck with the big bulky child seats for now.

My 6 year old and 12 year old sit in the rear with no problems, i have blacked out side windows, so no one sees in anyway, but as said, as long as the seat belt covers the shoulder and across the stomach, it should be safe enough. Safer than a booster flopping around corners lol

I had a cop stop to talk to me the other week and my daughters were in the back they are 7 & 11 he looked at them and didn't even say nothing about them not being on or in booster seats as said by groover it's got to be safer than sitting on a booster seat which can not be fitted properly

mine only has lap belts......

:s

if you find a person breaking a UK zed, get the rear belts from them, you can modify your existing plastic quarter window surround to accommodate the belt with a wood cutters hole boring tool. the fixing locations are already on the bodywork. thats what i did with my jap spec zed, also makes it more appealing to others if you ever sold it on.
