I've been playing with the graphing functions of this unit over the past few weeks and normally one good boost in gear looks like the left-hand side (when graphing boost), but more and more recently I've noticed sometimes when I'm belting it that the boost graph looks like it does on the right of the picture - performance is slightly but noticeably reduced while boost is scattered like this. I think it normally does it when the wheels are spinning (i.e. in 1st or 2nd), but could it be a sign of a slipping clutch or something else? It tends to do it in third gear mainly. If this happens, I back off and then reapply throttle and all is well again for the next few goes. Anyone know what would cause this? I've been running an RPS Street Sport clutch for a few thousand miles without any noticeable problems, and I can't smell any telltale smells of clutch, although perhaps a faint whiff sometimes (hard to tell with so many old and hot bits of engine in front of you!).

Gain's only set at 17. This behaviour only happens now and again, normally the boost is fine - in fact I should be able to up it to 20ish perhaps a tad more.

However saying that I was driving home this afternoon and a pipe's worked its way off - loud whooshing and hardly any boost. Third pipe along going into throttle body isn't on properly so I'll get my screwdriver out tomorrow and reseat it. Hopefully this will explain the weird graph!

Interestingly while tuning my car Noel reckoned that the boost controller itself may be faulty. It's still often doing this 'scattering' even now. I wonder whether there's a mechanical fault (e.g. with the solenoid) or a fault with the electronic unit. Or perhaps the cabling from one to t'other. I know there was a problem a couple of years or so ago with the cabling having got too close to something hot in the engine bay and melting in half; one end was dragging along the road, causing some interesting readings on the E-01 screen when it went through a puddle. Jeff fixed it a while ago but I wonder if over time it's having an effect again. Wouldn't things be a lot easier if engines were transparent...
