GARGLE NOISE more info plz help

my car is 1993 uk twin turbo automatic

right guys i have a gargle type noise coming from the passenger side (uk car)automatic twin turb)

ive not noticed it until the car warms up!

ITS NOT AIVS!!!

MY FIRST THOUGHTS !are its a fuel problem?

reason for this is the sound comes and goes with accelerating,no sound when foot is off the gas pedal,it gets worse the harder i accelerate

2ND THOUGHt

every day i check the radiator and i have to constantly top it up about half a litre(but im not loosing coolant??)

maybe trapped air???

so im gonna try raising the front of car and let it run for a while to see if i can release any trapped air!

work done on car

brand new engine ,now has 10 k miles on it

new radiator

new t28 turbos

k+n induction

mongoose catback zorst

hks boost controller

jwt ecu chip

new 02 sensors

new boost and fuel pipes

also other probs i have on the car is the good old goose honk(recircs coming out and bovs on there way!)

DOES ANYONE HAVE ANY OTHER IDEAS I COULD LOOK INTO?

really guys i could do with ya help its getting worse!

replies much appreciated.thanks jay

Jay you say you are not losing coolant but have to top it up everyday 1/2 a litre a day?

It's got to be going somewhere?

Second you dont need to raise the car to bleed the coolant system!

On the left hand side of the rad is a bleed screw.

Run the car up to working temp and carefully unscrew that plastic bleed screw, you will see all the air come out wink.gif

repeat that until no more air just water is flowing out, then top up the rad to max.

Ihave a slight prob with liquid coming from some where, saw a small puddle on passenger side other day, pulled back carpet, took of wood panel to ECU etc, found more,do the same Jay,it could be going behind there!worth a look, mine only seems to happen if air con/heater on!.

Jay, are you saying that the gargling noise is detonation??

I have a similar noise - only just audible though. Wouldn't expect it to be detting as I've heard this on other cars and it was quite pronounced.

You can lose coolant internally too, seem to remember this happening on a 350YPVS I once had when the head gasket was a bit leaky, might be worth checking the colour of your coolant..(?) Maybe the gargling is one of the cylinders blowing into the water jacket - just a thought...

RobH

I hope the coolant doesn't look 'fizzy' when you remove the cap!!! This would point to what Rob is saying... Basically when the cylinder compresses, the HG allows the pressure to leak past and get into the water ways...

Detting sounds like a load of bolts rattling in a cake tin (kinda). I would get someone who really knows what detting sounds like, to sit in the car and hear the noise with you!!!

Tony - unfortunately I'd say your heater matrix is buggered m8!!!! frown.gif

Andy, its not what i wanted to hear this morning,haaaaaaaaaaaaaaf--k, had a idea it might be, going to Jeffs on thurs for some work, will get him to have quick look!,cheers

andy i could do with someone checking my car out,its starting to do my head in!!!

looks like a run out on friday.

my car radiator isnt fizzy thank foooooooooook

i havnt a clue where my coolant has been going?

no pools of coolant!

not mixing with the oil!

ive just bled the system off today so i'll check it in the morning, hopefully ,hmmmmmmm

there wont be any loss, which i dont no if is a good thing or not?

after flushing the system 3 times and bleeding the air off i still have my gargle.

gonna try the aiv's tommorow when i put the intercoolers on so,so that will be another tick off the list of wat it could be.

Jay if you fancy bringing it round to my house I'll check it over for you no probs. Let me know and I'll mail you my address etc and we'll go from there...

CheerZ,

Andy

andy no fiz for me ,thank foooook

as i didnt no about my bleed valve i did have lots of air in my system and this is why i thought i was loosing coolant.im looking elsewhere for my gargle noise!

  • Author

andy email me ya ADDRESS and i'll be down next week.

ive got to get my car sorted as im spending too much money on it and i really shouldnt have probs

ive just put my new intercoolers on and checked aiv's(no probs with aivs)

also ive checked my recirc pipes and retightened em(goose honk )

the only place i can guess ive got probs is my electrics as i no its not in a good state.

im waiting for another 3 plugs for the harness and some more sensor harnesses

can you solder by any chance?

i need the harnesses sorting my plugs are all cracked and split with missing spring clips.

thanks jay

Andy,am i a happy man, seems that the big puddle was due to some nutter at sometime shoving a big bolt up the drain pipe that leads from air con/heater unit, making the water collection tray fill up and piss it all on passenger floor and down across ecu box, some people are totally nuts,.

Good luck with jays motor, must be doin his head in.

if i put my hands on my ears and pushed hard enuff,id pop?

wots in my head would just mush around,my heads that done in.

i feel like a big zit ready for poppin in front of the mirror.

another year of ZED Y,T,S and i reckon i'll be a time served mechanic on all other cars.

what ive thought it was from day 1 is something to do with the fuel rail/line from the fuel filter to the engine?

i dont no if this sounds daft but it sounds like i have fuel and too much AIR,and this is where the gargle noise is coming from?

1/ THIS IS THE PLACE WHERE IT SOUNDS LIKE ITS COMING FROM

2/THE SOUND INCREASES WHEN I ACCELERATE AND IN TIME,DECREASES WHEN I TAKE MY FOOT OFF THE GAS,BUT CAN STILL SLIGHTLY HEAR IT

3/ 95 PERCENT SURE ITS NOT AIV'S

4/IVE FLUSHED AND BLED THE COOLANT SYSTEM(NOT COOLANT)

5/ NO ECU CODES

6/NOT RUNNING LEAN(HAVE AIR FUEL METER)NEW 02 SENSORS)

7/NOT HEATER,IT DOESNT RELATE IN ANY WAY TO CHANGING MODES ON AIRCON HEATER ETC

8/ NOT THE FUEL FILTER(NEW FILTER)

9/90 PERCENT SURE ITS NOT BOOST LEAK(RELATED)

WHAT HAVE I MISSED?????????????????????????

also the sound is the loudest directly in front of the passenger seat in the engine bay.not inside the car!!to hear it the most i need my windows closed, its not that loud but annoying!

hope someone has more ideas as ive give in.

brucey bonus point and dusty bin to anyone who gets it right.

thanks jay
