ahhhhhhhh, What a mine field!!! there are just sooo many graphics cards to choose from, I`ve built my last 4 pc`s and once knew about every part inside and out, but lately I`ve lost touch in all computery things..so can you reccommend me a graphics card?

I`ve an intel quad core q6600, 8gb ram, win7 64bit, and a spare pci-e slot, mother board is asus p5w

i do a bit of video editing and messing about with HD and 3d flims, not really a gamer but wont say no

I wanna spend a max £80 but more like £40-50 on a half decent graphics card

please put me out of my misery

oh, and I dont mind buying a 2nd hand one either ;)

and current graphics card is `GeForce 8400GS - 256MB GDDR2`.

Computery other half says if you're doing video editing go for nvidia rather than ati. On balance, nvidia is slightly more expensive than ati. Go for something with 2gb of onboard DDR . GeForce gt520 is about £50

It also has a hdmi on it

Ah, yes thats one thing that i deffo need hdmi, just on flea bay now having a peek, thanks :)

you NEED gddr5, 1gb gddr5 will be better than 2gb gddr3.

Nvidia 550 ti is a good "budget" card.

ATI 6570, 2GB GDDR5, with HDMI, PCI Express 2.1 - Bargain right now at Pixmania £72 delivered: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/MSI-Radeon-HD-6570-2-GB-GDDR5-PCI-Express-2-1-R6570-MD2GD3-LP-/180878588056?pt=UK_Computing_Computer_Components_Graphics_Video_TV_Cards_TW&hash=item2a1d343898

search any other card at that spec and your looking £140+

see this search: http://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/i.html?_trkparms=65%253A12%257C66%253A2%257C39%253A1%257C72%253A6003&rt=nc&_nkw=gddr5+2gb&_dmpt=UK_Computing_Computer_Components_Graphics_Video_TV_Cards_TW&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_sop=15&_sc=1

mmm, thanks Ryan, that looks a good card for a good price, it says extreme gamer too, so must be good :) CheerZ

dude ive got a 8800 GTX and a 9800GTX, both still capable of playing the latest games, both good for HD video, both will work with your set up, oh both spare and going cheap.

you can get a DVI to HDMI converter matey, you have to remember DVI is the digital out put, its what i do to get my HD signal to my projector from my PC. so all you actually need is a graphics card with DVI out which is much more common.

those are top notch cards from the last generation of graphics cards.

both worth considering, £300+ cards in their day. prob better than todays £100 cards still though.

most cards have DVI/HDMI now ... SVGA connection is a discontinued connection port

I could live without hdmi, but had a spare hdmi cable and no dvi for some reason ;(

get on ebay, get a DVI to HDMI connector, goes in the back of the graphics card on the DVI port, then just slot in a HDMI cable, only thing you will need is separate speaker system, oh ive PM'ed you as well.

its worth paying a little extra for the 9800gtx if within your price range. Both are good old skool cards, but the 9800 is more powerful, can handle more and so will be better value in the long term.

well up to you bud, the less memory on the 9800 doesn't make a difference it still performs like a train.

i think 9800 is much quicker clock speeds. less memory, but higher throughput, its allround winner mate ;)
