Hi folks I think I have problems.

this noise started about a week ago while my z was on the ramps having it's MOT (of all places), anyway it still passed.

Car sounds fine starting hot or cold but after 5 minutes driving or on a high tickover (like the MOT) I get a rattle which sounds like it's coming from the top end, it increases with more revs then stops on idle.

My first thoughts were followers but if anyone has any ideas I love to hear them. All I've tried so far was an oil change which I do every 3000-4000 miles anyway, it did nothing.

Brian, this sounds like you've either got bearing problems OR oil circulation problems... What does the oil pressure guage read? I know they aren't that accurate but it will give an indication. I suppose it could also be detting under very strange circumstances but I am unclear by the way you describe it....

cheers andy, oil pressure reads about 60 until warmed up then drops to 40ish, the noise sounds like it's from the back of the top of the engine.

Hmmm.... Another thought... It could be that you have a snapped 'variable valve timing' spring which are located at the front of the intake cams. You may as well do a cambelt change at the same time if this is the case....

 

Where abouts are you??? Someone may be near to you who can listen for any problems....

I'm on the county Durham coast in the north east, I think I'm a long way from most of you guys. I don't know of anywhere near here that looks at Z's. i might end up at the dealers.

I think there's a few guys around you may be able to help. If not then feel free to fetch it down to me - near Preston Lancs, and I'll have a look at it for you.
