im going to compile a list of things to check on a monthly basis, to help maintain our zeds, then create a sticky to help folks out.

Apart from the usual checks we do, water, oil and brakes etc. there are bits that get neglected and over time can cause issues if not looked after.

what i want is ideas from members of what to check in addition to normal checks. and a guide of how often to check

to give you an idea, some of the top of my head.

Item / location issue cause remedy

Targa drain tubes all blocked/ damaged wet carpet, rotten sills pour water down them, should drain under the sills

Rear Number plate bulbs not working / rusty fail mot ensure holders are fixed to bumper

boost leaks poor running loose/ broken go over engine checking all hoses/clamps tight

ecu temp sensor poor running high fuel use / rpm clean connector ensure good fitment

coil packs running on 5 or less high fuel / running issues make sure pressed down, loom in good condition, and has bolts tight

injectors fuel problems / running bad connection, over fueling seated correctly, rubber seal, loom in good condition

radiator expansion tank overheating / loss water cracked/ broken remove wheel and check condition, as ive killed 2 due to stupid camber.

you get the idea, no matter how stupid you it might be, this list should help us all out, once i have enough details i will create a tick box style worksheet so we can just type in a problem and hopefully show a solution.

your input is helpfull.

yes, Tyre Pressures are 1, which should be checked on ALL cars, not just zds obviously. I never use air in my tyres anyway, I use nitrogen, as its helps with grip and raction, and is much "thicker" than air, meaning it doesn seem to seap through the tyres over time. (you can get tyres filled with nitrogen at a local tyre center for around £1 a wheel)

obviously tyre tread needs checking, brake pads, all bulbs as its something you dont normally notice when a brake light is out. other than general oil checks etc, you need to check window wash levels, always runs out when you need it most. obviously Im naming general stuff, Im not Z experienced yet to know of any particulars, so this guide will be great.

Will it come in the same sort of format as a vehicle inspection PDi?

I do 100 miles a week, for work alone. so obviously we going to have different amounts of usage.

I have no idea on running costs. taking it easy, how much you reckon to do 100 miles?

Im thinking about £30 which is 30p a mile. or am i being totally unrealistic? The MKII Focus RS seems to do around 24mpg when you take it easy, and 12 mpg when you push it.

completely depends on where your driving and driving style, got 26 MPG out of mine on a long boring motorway run, and about 15mpg on an everyday rush to work

not an obvious one but the bonnet catch, is a good one to check (make sure its working correctly and oiled up), and a visual check for fluid leaks always a good idea.

recent on i found on my zed was one of the injector connectors had lost its clip so was slightly loose, causing intermittent running issues.

although when ever mines on the ramp at work (at least once a month) the mechanics always come have a look and find something wrong with it lol...., latest one was a steering gator was cracked

Thanks Phoenix. and this is Appreicated Stu.

Looking forward to the list. :D
