temp sensor!!!

easy people!

i know ive probably posted enough 'tech' topics to drive ulot and bonkers! but i need some more help on the temp sensor or maybe even the circuit.

the i recently did a ecu diag and...code 13

which is, if im correct the temp sensor. just replaced it and.....NOTHING!

i presume its the circuit or somin but how do i go about rectifying it? cheers lads,

jaz

youve replaced the temp sensor?

When you say NOTHING, you mean it still says code 13 at trhe ECU.

IF thats what u meant then IIRC the ECU remembers errors, so you have to reset it to clear the error memory, disconnect the battery for 45 mins or so and try it again

HTH

That doesn't sound quite right to me Clarkey. IIRC the current ECU error code is cleared everytime the ignition is turned off, but the memory of past codes lives on for something like 50 ignition on/offs, unless cleared by a Consult/ConZult.

So ... if your temp sensor still shows as a fault it's most likely that you have a wiring problem.

hi guys,

clarkey, after replacing the sensor i did disconnect the batt for an hour but im still getting code 13... but if what andy is saying is correct, what should i do? ive tried tracing the wire for faults etc but no joy... any specific reading i could look out for from the temp sensor connector?

regards jaz

are you still recieiving the problems related to a dodgy temp sensor? ie high idle.

did you also replace the ECU coolant temp sensor as i believe this throws up the same error,

im currently getting mine replaced as I type this smile.gif i will let you know what they say about the errors, im going to get them to run a consult to clear them anyway

hi mike, still got code 13! i wouldn't say i had a high idle point... seems ok..

the only thing i changed was the temp sensor near the front of the engine.(red, connector on top is yellow)

i wasnt aware of the ecu coolant temp sensor, where is it?

BTW code 13 means the engine temperature sensor circuit is open or shorted eg an abnormally high or low voltage is reported.

So if you have changed the correct sensor AND you have cleaned the connectors in the plug, then I reckon you have a wiring problem somewhere. I can't remember whether the resistance of the sensor can be measured at the ECU connector - can anyone else ? may need to check the wiring diagram ...

the temp sensor is the black one correct (for the dash) I get problems with this one a lot, a quick jiggle and my idle drops back to 750rpm

i am replacing both just to be sure, :O)

Well after checking the wiring diagram it would appear that the Engine Temp Sensor (which I'm pretty certain must be the one on the top water casting, is connected to ECU pins 28 & 30. Which should be Y/G (yellow green) and B (prob Black) respectively.

For plug/pin layouts etc check here :- http://www.twinturbo.net/ttnetfaq/FAQpages/ecuharness.html

And for resistance values here :- http://www.z32.org/html/coolanttemp.shtml

Good luck

BTW as far as I can tell the smaller, black temp sensor does nothing whatsoever, except the dash temp gauge.
