Did they test it as a non cat test/pre cat test? as its an import, its not on the database and therefore has to be tested on emissions as a pre cat test and should pass, unless you are really blowing some crap out the exhaust lol

can any one explain the mot emission test screen with 4 columns on it the right hand one was reading red on my test when revved the red dropped down but at idle shot back up again the tester says its supposed to go green what does this right hand column measure my co readings were fine

  • Author

Dont know, we where actually told co readings where fine, but the column on the far right of the screen was red all the way to the top while on idle when revved the red column went partly white but shot back up to red at idle what does the red measure

hi - all machines are different, but if the CO was ok then it is likley to be the HC reading (hydrocarbons)

High HC readings are a result of poor combustion & can be caused by many things - ignition faults, air leaks etc

See if you can find out what the readings were & I'll take a look :)

Thankyou so very very much Paul for all your help & advice, it paid off, car passed after explaining to the garage what you advised.

You are one top bloke.:thumbup1:

Anyway, we got the zed back, when it went in it had 105707 miles on the clock & 1/4 tank fuel, we got it back with a fiddled with stereo, 105776 miles on the clock & a splutter to say we where running out of fuel!!!!!!!

Thing is....................what would you do?

Our lass wants to kick off & kick @rse but the bill came in at £354, our lass said she couldn't pay & it would be end of month, they said ''ok thats fine, dont worry about it, just whenever''.

They are a very laid back garage with pretty good customer service but we are still p1ssed off at what may have happened to the zed whilst not in their care having its brake pipes done. I'm just concerned if some tw@t has thrashed the @arse off it for fun.

Whats your opinions?

Thanks,

Bob

I would be bloody furious, they are supposed to be fixing your car not joy riding for 70miles. Demand to speak to the manager and ask him what he is going to do about it. If he just brushes you off then tell him you will be reporting it to the Police.

i would talk to them about it .. and then insist on only paying for the parts and letting the labour charge slide for the joyride/fuel

how ever it works out .. you have the upper hand right now as the job/work has not been paid for .. :)

Well - I am glad that I could help & pleased it passed the MOT but that is pretty bad if your car has been out for a joy ride for 70 miles!

I would certainly be reporting it to the manager/owner & see what they have to say in the first instance.
