regarding any1 with an auto!!

hello,

got my box reconed - shite!

need to know a few things guys :

1, when taking off very slowly, at what revs does ur motor change gear? ( from 1st to 2nd) mine is at around 4000 revs which seems very slow!!!!

2, secondly, mine doesnt kickdown when travelling 25-35mph-apprx, is that ok??

My two autos both have a dead spot between about 25 to 40 mph. The only way they kick down is if you use the lever.

ours also shifts to second at about 4000rpm which I find really late, glad to hear its not just ours that does it smile.gif

It shifts depending on how you drive it - If you are accelerating hard then it shifts at 7000 - if you drive very very gently it will shift around 2000. On the Jap spec car there is an inhibitor switch that can override normal driving with 'hold' and power' anyone got this?

It could be a badly adjusted TPS causing the computer to misread the accelrator position or it could also be a badly adjusted throttle cable.

Otherwise try a fluid change and see if that helps.

Most of this stuff has been covered before so try a search to find some previous stuff.

My Supra Autobox was ace and used to change perfectly and do exactly what you'd expect an Auto to do!

When I got my Jap Dustbin I thought the Auto was a joke. Very erratic and changes like it's got a mind of its own.

You can be driving along quite normally at say about 60mph and for no reason whatsoever it will change up and a second later back down again!

Sometimes you accelerate away and you're waiting for it to change...and you wait...and you wait...until you ease off the throttle a tiny bit and it changes up.

I've got used to the quirks on mine now and just live with it. I know what to expect and how it drives so I can't be that bothered to spend shit loads of money sorting the little gremlins out.

My box has been rebuilt with exchange torque convertor and just recently added the SE Autobox cooler.

I think some people have mentioned the speed sensor. Have run the ConZult on mine and know problems reported and no ECU error codes either!

Just one of them things I guess. wink.gif

cheers lads, suppose it helps to know that some of your motors change the same.... needed something to go on cos im gonna take it back to the fella who recond'd it.

MY 300ZX TT Autobox is fine. The changes seem optimum to me (but I don't pay 2 much attention 2 it), and are dependent on how heavy and fast your right foot is ! If it does kickdown at low speeds it's because it is probably best in 2nd gear ? The box knows best I reckon [bit like a married guy's love life!!!]!

My 200SX box ? Now that's another matter !! Only works when you blast fook outta it !!

Come 2 think of it, after the 200SX, the 300 did seem harder to boot fast - you just gotta use the O/D button AND kick down and then u take off !!.

alright lads,

nelson mate do you mean use the o/d and kick down? in sequence? cos i dont think my o/d button works} frown.gif

chris, gonna have to ring my bank managers neck b4 he decides to give me a dime....lol smile.gif ( one for the near future though! )

cheers

Yes, switch O/D OFF (amber light comes on in display)[you should notice revs go up a few hundred rpm], then kickdown - only need to kickdown when travelling BETWEEN say, ~~30-80??. ie. too low and you're in first neway, too high and gearing favours highest gear (4th + O/D OFF), so kickdown is less efficient.
