Managed to drop the car off today to get the rims refurbed. For those that missed the last thread, I'd managed to find someone that was willing

to split the rims, powder coat the centre a nice gun metal grey (match the car quite well) and the lip a nice shadow chrome. He gave me a very

pleasing price to the tune of £300, so as you can imagine i was rather excited to drop it off and to allow work to commence.

However, after been back at work a couple of hours i received a phone call telling me its not going to be a easy as once thought, turns out at

sometime in their life, somebody has actually welded the seal around the split, as well as siliconed it. So he says they can not be split.

So i'm left with the choice of either getting them done all in one colour, abandoning them completely and buying a new set, or just living with them as they are.

I've google'd the shit out of them and not for love nor money can i find some new ones. So i'm actually devastated, I love the rims and i'm

sorry to say that if the car didn't have them when i bought it there's a good chance i would of walked away and bought something entirely different.

I have thought about just getting them coated in the chrome, (providing he's willing to remove the bolts first) and then at a later date if i want

to, try and get the centre painted and lacquered in a nice grey, but not sure if that would be do able.

Here's some photo's just for a reference.

Hi Stevie, what you have are 2 piece split rims, you can still take the center out and you are left with the rims intact, so you should still be able to do what you want, tell your man to undo the bolts as normal split rims and push the center out it may need a small amount of heat but it will come out.

How can you be sure? If it is then I'll be ecstatic. I'm giving him a ring in the morning to let him know what I want to do.

Thanks for updating us on your rim matey...

Who did you go to in the end?

I went to ppcalloy.co.uk like you said. He's a really nice bloke.

So is it the centre piece thats been welded on? he took the centre piece out of mine..

I saw the chrome job on the Aston martin he did and it looked mint..

he is a nice, honest bloke. would definately recommend him to anybody...

He just said they'd been welded on the back. I'll let you know how I get on when I speek to him in the morning.

I would get them done in a nice gun metal grey. Polished and crome lips are a pain to keep looking nice.

They look Nice is the lip polished?

Well I spoke to the guy today. and it turns out the spokes have been full blown welded to the outer rim, and aparently its a really nice weld too. So unfortunatly there's no chance of them been split. So i've decided to get them all done in the Shadow chrome, unfortunatly it means the bolts will be powder coated over, but they'll be in better knick than they were.

Depending on the turn out I mite see about getting the spokes sprayed grey and laqured after, shouldn't be too much to mask off the rest. but its still a bit of a bummer about the bolts.

I'll post up some photo's when I pick the car up.

chrome is whack! get the bolts out have the whiole wheel powder coated a single metallic colour, and drop in some nice anodised bolts. chrome is a pain in the ass, and it doesnt soon a zed imo.

Hi

The lip was milled shot inside and and out ! using these as the show wheels got some evo three spokes on there at the moment got z alloy centres from flee bay and new nuts as well.

I was thinking of getting some of the zed centres but decided against it.

I picked the car back up today, the centre caps aren't finished yet. but i am pleased with the result so far. they're not perfect, but considering the state they were in its not surprising. I'll post some photo's up when I get chance.

If the rim is made how i think it maybe, then yes its made in 3 pieces, but the front and rear of the rim are joined and welded then sealed the centre is cooled and the rim heated. Then the centre is put into place, rim is then allowed to cool and the centre is then held solid, the bolts are an added strength.

Good luck fella...

I read the title an thought you had piles or something...:clown:

Really made me laugh that haha

Common practice for Japanese made split rims to have the barrels welded together.

But doesn't it defy the point of been split?
