ACCELERATING PROBS???

when setting off and giving my car some stick,it seems sluggish at first then given a couple of seconds it seems to just kick off and really fly.

is this normal for automatics or does is sound like i have a prob?

I hope the engine is already hot when you do this?

Ie. Oil pressure below the middle when moving, engine temp moving up between 1/4 and 1/2.

Mine's an auto..but never boot it when first thing. Let the car warm up. Have heard nightmares where people boot their car's from cold. So I'd say just drive normal for a few minutes then play...

Try cleaning the temperature sensor connectors. I had a similar issue with my 5 speed. I often left the AC on for better pull from lights, it would have a little bit of a stall between 800 and 1000 RPM. Cleaning the temp sensor connector fixed it. Acutally that and a trip to see JeffTT which made a world of difference.

Do you mean a sort of pause as thought the thing is winding itself up??

I have this but have put it down to turbo lag and torque convertor - not too sure how torque convertors work tho' - anybody?? I quite like it, it's like from no torque to massive torque in an instant.

Jay, not sure but did i read in an earlier post of yours that you had an engine from a maunal ? if that is the case, you using manual turbo's or auto's ? as you know auto turbo's are slightly smaller and spool up quicker, so if your using manual ones in an auto, it would suggest lag, if this is the case, best bet is a lite weight flywheel, if me first couple of lines are incorrect, then whoops !! oh and did you get my reply on your wiring for air/fuel gauge ?

hi jay,

what is the stall speed,

to test put the car in drive, left foot on brake(hard) right foot slowly on throttle increase revs till it won't go up anymore(this is your stall speed)its should be around 1800-2200rpm,

but only do this for a maximum of 5secs or else you can overheat your box,as sometimes when box's get older the torque converter doesn't slip as much as it used to so resulting in slow take off,

also by doing said test on road it is possible to get a pos+ boost before take off this will tell you if it is turbo lag(BUT I SAY AGAIN IT IS NOT SOMETHING TO DO EVERY TIME YOU PULL UP TO THE LIGHT'S AS IT CAN SERIOUSLY DAMAGE THE BOX OVER A TIME)

rob,thats wat i thought!

neil,i'll give that a go!

andy p thanks for the links,im sat reading em,cheers

thanks everyone jay

This could actually be an effect of the aftermarket filter... Because it breathes easier, when you first accelerate, the air enters the nitake much quicker than the ecu compensates for, hence pushing the mixture lean....

Just a thought
