Adjusting the idle

Can anybody tell me how to do this? I've no idea where the idle screw is, and i need to drop the idle revs by about 200.

Cheers

I seem to recollect instructions being available at www.z-car.net

Bear in mind that this is not as simple as with a 'normal' car. You don't need to touch the throttle stop (so don't be tempted). What you are actually doing is setting the lowest limit at which the idle should ever get (~600 rpm) and then letting the ECU set it to it's preferred level. So there can be a number of factors that affect the idle like cleaning the throttle bodies, adjusting the throttle position sensor (TPS) and resetting the ECU itself.

hi atomic,

if you go to the battery and look at the back of the engine you'll see an aliminum block(aiv) with some pipes coming off it the the idle screw is pointing staight at the battery???????

you'll need a small in length screwdriver flat head,

hope this makes sense!!! smile.gif

I think you mean the AAC and before you twiddle the screw you should disconnect the AAC solenoid, otherwise you'll just be competing with the ECU.

Erm hang on a sec!!!! You don't adjust the idle on these cars!!! You adjust the BASE idle and the ECU does the rest! There is some other reason your car is idleing high - probably dirty throttle bodies or a gooey idle valve. Could even be an air leak. Clean the throttle bodies and the idle valve assembly - there's a current thread with this info in.

Also check the contacts on the temperature sensor for corrosion. Mine idles much better after I cleaned them. I was in Cambridge yesterday meeting a friend with a newish BMW and she commented on how good the engine sounded.
