Can anyone help please?

When I start the "Z" from cold, as soon as I touch the accelerator pedal I get a rapid clicking noise and she bogs down as I pull away.

I think the noise is coming from behind the bulk head in the engine bay on the drivers side. Almost as if it was coming from the dash itself. Strange thing is, it does not happen once she is warm!!

Can anyone shed some light please? as it is driving me mad!!

Yeah, definitely bogs,

almost stalls unless I catch the clutch in time.

must say though, sounds more electrical to me, as if there is a sensor rapidly firing a solenoid valve, once warm it goes away though???

Is "bogs down"another text language description like "BAD" which took me a while and asking a youth what it meant LOL

Hi Car.Mad,

Will check the plugs and coil packs as you suggest.

Do not have a EBC Medallion Man,

though I do see your point with regards to it being a solenoid issue of some sort. I think it is something linked to a short somewhere on the warm up stage.

Does the exhaust temperature sensor fire the solenoid that sends warm air through to the cats so as to aid emissions?

Hi Kope, Sorry about the terminology.

What I meant by Bog Down was that as I try to move forward she almost stalls, this happens several times until she has warmed up.

Faulty VVT solenoid on the rear of the engine?

Thanks Steams,

Are they easy to get to? Would be keen to have a look at the connectors etc'

I've borrowed this picture from one of Jeff's threads, the valves are arrowed in black. I don't know if this is your problem but it's worth checking out.

Not sure if this is a coincidence, but while I was poking around under the bonnet,

I noticed one of the solenoid valves close to the clutch servo unit had a bottom hose missing. rummaged around and found the offending hose and reconnected it. Guess what? no more problem. Coincidence or have I fixed it?

Also, while I was at it. I noticed that one of the larger hoses from the servo to the balance bar was very loose and had a slight split at one end, so I cut it back and re clipped it. Made a big difference to the idle stepping down nicely as she warmed up! A good day for a change me thinks!

Thought it was worth sharing.
