Hi all, just wondering if you help out. I have my old laptop that had windows vista. I planned last year to wipe and reinstall the os system. So I wiped it then realised that the disc I still had was an upgrade and contained no drivers etc.

I have the product key on the bottom of the laptop but no disc. How can I solve this problem. Have I got to buy another disc or is there anywhere I can get a copy?

Cheers

you just need to borrow a vista disk and install it or you could get windows xp and install that then use your update disk and the other option is just downloading vista from the many torrent sites around and burning it to disk then installing that way

as jaikai has already said, you will have to contact acer as they supply OEM disks for your specific laptop, the code you have on the underside is a OEM code and will not work with a retail disk.

What is actually quite funny though, if you read Microsoft terms and conditions of installing the software, your windows installation is actually made illegal by the very shop that sells you it. for it to be recognised as a genuine install, you need not only the code sticker, but the book and the installation disk. according to Microsoft readme, with out all 3 you have a bootleg copy according to them and they offer no support?

You could try downloading a OEM acer from a torrent site and then try your key from the bottom of your laptop, it may or may not work though.

Cheers all for the input. I will find out. I agree Vista is pap, that's why I played around. Its just a shame for the laptop to sit there doing nothing. The spec ain't good enough for the newer stuff lol
