This isn't my Z, but my Galant. I've only just discovered that the ABS isn't working, then I discovered that the fuse was missing...then I found the fuse.

After reinserting the fuse and having a drive; the ABS is constantly trying to engage under braking, obviously this is why the fuse was removed.

There is no light on the dashboard, with or without the fuse. I personally don't care if its working, my first three cars didn't have ABS and I survived.

Giving that there is no ABS light appearing on the dash at all (bulb removed I guess) will this be picked up at the MOT?

Obviously if they look for a pump; they'll know it has ABS. It's all down to whether they look for the light coming on and off.

Cheers

they will be able to tell with the sensors on the wheels as well, but as far as im aware the new MOT rules brought in stipulate that the bulb needs to function if the car left the factory with it working. IE: to stop people just removing the bulb.

You may find if you put the bulb back in, that the reason the ABS is playing up, may be either the ABS ECU, or the cheaper option, an ABS sensor is actually the culprit.

Cheers,

I kind of figured I'd probably have to fix it.

Well, I better start reading up on ABS diagnostics! :(

I recon a sensor on one of the wheels normally front n/s to goes first

I'm hoping it is just a sensor, but I'm going to pull the dash apart on sat and install a bulb, see what happens and go from there. I'm also trying to track my multimeter down, but it seems to have vanished..

Could be a sensor duff of covered in metal filings, but could also be the ring gear/teeth on the end of the drive shaft for the sensor, sometimes crack and every rotation when applying the brakes it engages, I had to change one the other week, although on a different car...

ABS warning lamp has been part of the test for years, it's not just been added with the new regs. As has already been said it's likely the bulb has been removed because of a fault in the system.
