Re fitted my reconditioned front brake callipers today,

problem is I have just realised that the last time I bled the brake system, I inadvertently used DOT 4 as opposed to DOT 3 brake fluid.

Should I top up with 3 or stick to 4?

Worst still, do I need to re fill the system with DOT 3?

If I do top up with 4 will there be any long term adverse affects?

Stick to DOT4 it's better than 3. The only reason DOT3 was used in the zed is that DOT4 wasn't around then.

Since you have rebuilt the callipers you may as well flush the fluid for new as well.

HTH

dot 4 is better than dot3. i would flush the whole system with dot 4.

Didnt think you could get dot 3 anymore lol!!

what are you? my parrot!!!

My knowledge is limited here.....

.....but IIRC DOT 3, 4 and 5.1 are all similar in composition and can be mixed. Whereas DOT 5 is silicone based and completely incompatible with other types of brake fluid - in fact DOT 5 should never be used in a braking system where either of the other types has been previously used.......

If I'm right, you can simply top up with DOT 4 - it is after all an "upgrade" of DOT 3 (which is the minimum requirement for a 300zx; being the best available at the time the car was new).
