I've never studied the underside of standard Z32 seats, but hoping someone else can advise...

I have a pair of bucket seats chucked in the back of the garage, and also a pair of manual Z32 front seats. I really like the leather seats but I dont mind having some lightweight interior that I can throw in when I want to be dragging round less weight....

So here's the seats:

and heres the bottom of them, already got 'some' rails fitted (not sure what they are from!

Do you think I can fit these seats/rails to the Z32 rails somehow and what would it take to mount them?

Any assistance gratefully received! :cowboy:

Well Lee, if no-one can help, I'll pull the standard ones apart and see what I can come up with, I happen to work with a very good welder so that might help if they need alterations!

bet you will just stick them in with chewing gum buy the end of the week.

Btw those seats look bloody awfull. I hate seats you cannot recline.

If I use JDM chewing gum will that be acceptable? :whistling:

and no they dont recline... but I'm not as big as you... :tt2:

keep in mind that if you add your own runners and a non standard mounting arrangement your seats might sit too high which will ruin the driving position.

measure the seat base from the floor and aim for that or lower.

good thinking pete. I'll see how it sits tomorrow, the existing runners can always come off the seats.

I had the same problem fitting buckets into a previous zed, the best way to have them fitted is to have the frames welded to the floor, ask yowser for info as i know he had problems too

Last time i fitted bucket seats it made my car feel like i was in a van. never again lol!!

Not worth the hastle. Sell them on and use the money to do the rest of the kit etc. will be much more impressive :cool3:

but the standard seats are soooo heavy

If I do use them, then I'd want to chop and change when I feel like it by just undoing the 4 bolts and changing the seats.

Yeah mine are manual and they weigh almost half an electric seat. plus if you swap and change i doubt you will notice much differance in perforance tbh.

This is going to be a whole lot easier if you have a welder and can weld.....

Because those are lower budget seats that are base mounted rather than side mounted, you may have an issue with overall seat height by simply welding them into the stock rails. Your also not going to be able to alter the amount they recline like a side mounted seat.

It appears they have a set of generic low-height rails fitted as standard, but what your going to have to do is see how the width compares to the stock rails. If the width is good then you can use the rear holes like the stock rear hole mounts, then cut the front legs of the stock rails and weld them on to fit the front.

If the width is wrong, then your looking at knocking up a custom brace to match up the rail to the stock mounting points.

Either way, I would take into account how you want the seat reclined when working out the front mounting points.

Thats because you didn't mount them at the angle and height that suits you. A decent pair of Bucket seats, installed in the correct way for you can be a lot more comfortable than a set of generic stock car seats, and a hell of a lot more supporting. A lot of it is to do with finding the seat that matches your frame though, some are narrower/wider at the waist, while others are at the legs.

Fantastic answer Dave, very helpful (as always)

I'll have a look and see how they compare. I guess if it comes to it I'll just swap my leather seats onto the manual rails, that'll save me a bit of weight. :)
