Anyone know anything about RC planes or Helicopters???

I know its childish but I have never had one as a kid so I now need to get it out of my system. So any of you folks had any experiences with them? good or bad. Any recommendations on what to get first?

I really like these:

I do appreciate the advice though Mark and know I am more than capable of smashing one of these duct jet things into pieces within seconds. I may be moving to Derby soon so maybe you should start getting some parts in now

now why would u want to move to derby .. of all places .. lol

one of my team drivers decided to get him self nice RC Electric helli ... me and m8 showed him how to fly it few times well more like 10+ but then handed him

the controller for him to crash it with in 30sec and £150 bill later to put it right ...

Agree with Mark mate, you will crash that in seconds. lol If you want to get into RC planes (and there's nothing childish about it!) get your self a high wing park flyer to start off with, it'll be far more forgiving. There are hundreds of them out there so the choice is wide.

You can get either a RTF (ready to fly) kit that you just have stick batteries in and put the wing on or if you want a challenge that gives you much more satisfaction then get a kit that you have to build from scratch. I've been aero-modelling for over 30 years and to be honest I've made more planes than I've actually flown. From free flight rubber, electric or Jetex/rapier powered to control line IC then onto full blown RC.

I make laser cut free flight kits of old FROG and Skyleada planes from the 1950's era as retro is very much my bag.

I just need to get some skills first I think. So minimal outlook the better. I would be interested in making proper models though.

Reason I may be moving to Derby is my Mrs is a community nurse and commutes every day from stafford. I fancy a change from Stafford and there are a few good jobs that have come up around Derby/Derbyshire. Maybe I can run some areas past you (Mark) If we decide to make the move

Mark should be able to do you a deal on a suitable RTF mate. Then once you get the bug you can be more adventurous. That F22 looks fun but would very quickly become what is known as a "bin liner job" in any inexperienced hands
