hi there guys,

How do you clean electrical connectors? I've developed a miss-fire after changing the loom and deleting the air-con and am starting with bits I've replaced to find the fault.

Cheers

I had numerous electrical problems, especially erratic tick over,

I cleaned my harness connections with acetone, (after scraping off the green verdigris) she now runs perfect!

Be careful to use sparingly and test on a small area first, as it can attack certain plastics etc'.

I used a small artists brush to apply it.

go to one of those really cheap shops that sells everything. got myself a complete set of green gem 5 mini files for a £1. clean the spades of connectors with these, then spray with some ambersol (spray contact cleaner for electrical stuff)

best £5 you will ever spend. plus should be part of a zed toolkit.

check you havent overtightened the ecu connector, i did on my one and i lost an o2 sensor!! slackened it off and the car ran sweet as a nut :)

You can buy a contact cleaning pen there the nuts and only cost a few quid they use fiberglass inserts to lightly scratch the grime and carbon away we use them for cleaning up burnt/carbonated relay contacts on lifts

I use a contact cleaning spray that's slightly acidic. It bubbles away all the crap and leaves the connectors nice and shiny again.

Do you remember the name of it?

I used this stuff in all my connectors when i fitted a new loom , stops the green corrosion happening , i read it was developed for the marine industry to combat electrical issues in boats , Once you,ve got them clean fill the connectors completely and reconnect , should have any more probs again ! happy days

Hi Gaz,

Yeah mate got it sorted. The ECU connector was a bit tight so slackened that off a bit. Cleaned the connectors and I have a feeling the PTU connector wasn't on properly. Anyway she runs lovely now.

How's things with you?
