Power steering stopped working so being a prat I assumed it was he pump so replaced it.... It's still not working :( what else could it be?? It's a 92 imports manual NA converted to TT..

is the rack leaking anywhere?

 

not sure if there is an internal seal that could be ruptured causing it... don't suppose you have a replacement one handy....

no, it doesn't leak anywhere, it feels like its trying to to work but struggling, i dont have a spare one handy no, its NA too so i imagine id need an NA rack unless they are interchangeable?

Is your car fitted with a de limiter,if they play up the speed sensitive steering fails ? look behind the clocks ans see if a box is wired in,disconnect it and see if the problem persists.

where does it take the speed signal from?

 

i just finished prepping it for the mot this week (completely unrelated) but look how pretty she still is! :D

 

like Jimmer says... it's behind the speedo... you need to take the cover off the top, easy two screws and see if it has been de-limited...

ok, so its a small box right? ill disconnect it and try the steering :)

disconnected the de-limiter, still no power steering :( is there something on the rack that could be damaged or un plugged?

Have checked all the relevant fuses?

 

What happened when it failed? i.e. a loud bang, came on gradually etc..

all the fuses are fine (well the ones in the foot well and the ones behind the headlight are, iv not checked the loops next to the BMC, where is the PAS fuse actually? well anyway, it happened instantly at a bdc licensing day, the only thing i will say is there are 2x steering rack spacers in each end in between the arm and the rack (to improve lock) however iv done this to most of my nissans and this hasn't happened to any of them.
