leaking coollent help please

Leaking coolent from the left hand side of the engine, as a your looking at the engine its coming from I think the side of the radiator. I had the RAC come and try and find were it was coming from, as I had lost a lot of coolent he filled it back up with water and some stuff called Bars seal, its stopped the leak, is this stuff OK in the radiator? though feels like there is a loss of power. Does anyone have an idea what if any could of caused this to happen? coolent level was good, and around 6 months ago had a flush. Also is this a big job to find out what has happened

any suggestions much appreciated

cheers rob
