My second son was born on Friday so I'm considering my options.

I've had my Z since 2004, I was the first UK owner. I bought it from Auto BMC in Watford.

It's a genuine '99, S-reg, Skyline Metalic Purple, NA, auto, velour interior, impresive late spec. Just over 80,000 miles, about 50,000 done by me.

Standard except: Ace Turbine staggered width 18" wheels, stainless Japspeed exhausts, HID headlights, Sony CD/MP3/Radio with upgraded speakers all round, Apexi air filter, upgraded suspension all round (KYB/Eibach adjustable I think) fitted about 10,000 miles ago.

FSH, cambelt done at about 50k, serviced last week by Zedworld with the brief "If something needs doing, please do it". It only needed oil and filter plus a check over - they said it's tip-top.

It's never gone wrong while I've had it or needed anything other than routine maintenance (maybe that'll curse it and the wheels will fall off tomorrow!).

Any ideas what it's worth?

i would look at around 7k beautifull car. it should go for around 10 but realitically in this market... i beleive sudesh sold a very simular car for around 8k i hope this helps and of corse it is only my opinion.

gorgous motor, always like this, hopefully over the 6k mark but the market is dead unfortunately

oh and congrats on the new arrival

I don't know guys.. I know it's a lovely example, and you really don't see too many genuine 99 specs, but..... NA... Auto... and in the current market i would love to say that it's worth 10k.... but the reality is that these cars just do not command the sort of money that they should.

It's been said a million times before, and I'll say it once again, It's worth what someone is willing to pay, and we have seen time and again zeds going for silly low money.

I would suggest that you stick it up at the higher end of all the suggestions and see what happens. I guess your timescales also makes a big difference, if you can afford to hold out then who knows... maybe you will be one of the rare owners who actually get decent money for their zed.

Oh and the very warmest congratulations on the new addition to the family!

i cant agree with the term that its worth what someone is willing to pay, im willing to pay and i have the cash now £2, does that mean its worth £2 lol

I agree with you its such a ridiculous term when you decipher it that way lol. Cars do have a value though thats why there is depreciation and CAP/ Glass's guide. Unfortunetly its too old to value that way, so your gonna have to put it up for an amount that you would be happy to part with the car for.

that looks like an excellent exhample on the outside. pretty much unmlolested mechanicals . depending on how fast you want to sell . in my eyes 5k rush sale (undervalued) but realistically i'd put it up for 8k with good in depth photography and information. because imo the market struggles at times due to examples that are demanding too much money. your car looks beautiful and should get plenty of interest. i'd even add a walkaround video showing how nice it really is. good luck with sale if thats the road you're going down mate.

lol... I'll have it for £2 please.

I think you know what i mean guys. As i said, stick it up at the higher end of what you and others think, and then wait and see what happens.

It is a nice example mate, do you have any pics of the interior?

Yeah, I like those walk around vids when people are selling. Helps separate the men from the boys.

Stunning example. but the way things are its a na auto and not many people will even know what a 99spec is i would say 5k tops maybe even as low as 2.5k maybe 3k for joe public.

there are also alot of 99 replicas so again the average person will only see the reg and proberly go for the cheaper option.

for the high price it will be a limited market for some one in the know wanting a genuine 99 spec.

It hurts i know but thats what i think. what i think it should be worth then 8K easy.

I agree with that NA auto LWB people dont see the fact that it is a 99 spec when pricing as they will always say well i can pick up a manual TT for half the money. Hard car to sell

Why did you have to mention it being a LWB. i still think it make the same if it was a swb. :tt2:

I would say about £4K would be about right.

The 99spec part is worth a premium, but not much. In this guise it doesn't offer much (in terms of equipment) over an older model. The turbo models did have extras such as HID's, skirts that may bump the desirability and price up.

Looking at the basics its an 80,000 mile car, 3litre, NA, Auto and in these difficult times and with ever increasing petrol prices the cars arent worth that much.

Thanks for the input gents.

I think the 99 NA did get some useful updates; a stiffer chassis, the front bumper, brake mods, different controls, special glass etc. HIDs were standard on the 99 TT but not on the NA.

I love the car but I suspect it'd sell for nearer the lower figures mentioned in this thread than the higher ones.

I'm quite tempted to LPG it, keep it and use the wife's car for family duties. I don't know if I could bear to see someone else drive away in it!

Tbh i think it would be worth more to you than it would to sell.

Congratulations on your little son. If you have managed with one already i doubt one more would cause any trouble lol!!!!

LPG it and keep it

99 spec cars were the last model year for the 300zx in Japan, they received new tail lights, new front bumper and a range of other bits and pieces including xenon headlights on the TT optional on the NA. It makes the cars more reliable. Not to mention a decade or more newer than 1989 models. A combination of rarity (only a handful produced, very very few have been imported) the upgrades being genuine factory rather than added like many have done, and they are generally lower milage/better condition by being considerably newer.

The car above is a stunning example but becomes hard to value as its an NA auto, I would say to a collector/right person its got to be worth between 4 and 5k.

Its not becuase its an NA auto zed, its a 99 Spec zed. The last genuine 99 spec car I saw for sale was the one roobarb has, which is a TT manual. Now when it was for sale at a dealer it was up at £12,995. I cant imagine thats what it sold for but it gives you some idea :)

Even at £4-5000, it wouldn't sell quickly in my eyes.

The person buying it will need to know what it is, if they didn't, they wouldn't pay much more than any other up for sale.

If somebody wanted a 99 spec genuine car, i think they would know they need to pay a high price for it.

Unless, somebody in the zed community bought it without really wanting it, just becasue it was cheap and they could afford to hold onto it.

Stunning motor. I would happily pay £5k for it - if i was in the market for one.

A 99 spec is now 13 yrs old.

When i bought my 1990 SWB NA it was 12 yrs old. I paid £4500. It had about 65k miles and was standard other than wheels

I dont know if that makes any odds.

Also, one of the nice changes to the 99s was the xenon headlights - unfortunately like you say, the NA never had them.

Very true, but they also had manual heater controls etc. didn't they. So technically they were of lower spec than say a s2 TT. At least as standard anyway.

Thats an interesting comparison!

It does appear that the value of zeds has changed little over the last 10 years or so. However the value of the pound has decreased usign some suspect website I found, the £4500 you paid is worth £5900 in this day and age.

I would also wager that when you bought your 1990 car there would have been many more nice examples about. Its getting hard to find a good one, I must admit I have a regular look through autotrader/ebay/pissheads and there isnt always many i would be running to have a look at.

I have seen several nice looking 300zx go for less than £1,200, over the last few months.

I think what we want to sell for and what someone will actually pay, are quite far apart.

Prices appear to be low and staying there.

I wish it were otherwise.

Tim

In my opinion the price of fuel has put down the prices of all big petrol engine cars which leave them as toys for the weekend and the recession has taken away people owning weekend toys so very bad time to sell. You have two choices sell it cheap or keep it in a garage till prices rise (if they ever do) If it was mine I would keep it.

What people are prepared to pay and what they are able to pay are very different, I was getting offers of 3k for mine they politely go told to JOG ON!!!! thats why im breaking mine, was very little wrong with it but sad fact is these cars are worth pennies these days, you will get more by breaking it.
