Half Turbo Boost

Started the car recently and only got half boost on turbo gauge and the lack of performance was noticeable. Don't drive car very often, but this day had done about 100 miles.

Stopped the car whilst (saftey Boost???) was on. Car seemed ok once restarted.

On Holiday now, so havent driven car since.

Has anyone else experienced probs of same nature.

The car is a 1990 TT Jap spec with about 70K. Been well looked after in both Jap and England and has no modifiactions at all.

Can anyone shed light please.....

Hopefully worrying needlesley...!!!!!

Cheers Russ...

When you say half boost do you mean your needle goes to 0 when you hit throttle full ?

Sounds to me like one turbo has seized.

then unsiezed when he turned the ignition off/on ??!!? biggrin.gif tongue.gif

do an ecu diag to check for any faults, does sound like it in safety boost.

Hmm, yeah OK, see what you mean. There is a possibility I wasn't 100% sober when I read that the first time ! redface.gif

Maybe corroded or dirty connections on your main temp sensor or failed sensor - take em off and clean em. If it is high resistance it might be telling the ecu the engine is always cold so it will not allow you full boost - you will also burn lots of fuel cos its running rich too.

I am not 100% sure whether the resistance on the temp sensor falls as temp goes up but I think its like that. Then it makes sense that high resistance = "I'm cold says the engine"
