speaker amplifer

i have a 90 300z with the bose sound system in it. i bought some more speakers because my others are blown. i took the old ones out and each speaker has an amplifer that has 4 wires going into the amp. i want to take the amps out, should i just cut the wires feeding the amp? or is there a wiring harness for this? if i have to cut them which ones do i hook to the speaker? thanks for any help.

Well I've never touched a Bose system but I presume that if you have amps for individual speakers if you bypass the amps then the output from the head unit won't be enough to drive the new speakers. Because you I have amps I would also guess that the wiring between the head unit and the amp will be very thin and wouldn't be much cop for standard speakers. Additionally, I recollect that the Bose speakers/amps(?) are a non-standard impedance, so normal (4 ohm?) jobbies won't work right anyway.

What I think you need to do is put a decent head unit in and run new wiring for the new speakers.

Bob (Safe and Sound) had a deal on some Kenwood stuff recently, I think - try a search.

The BOSE speakers are each driven by their own amp. In the normal car there are five amps for the four back and front speakers and one for the centre one.

The impedance on the speakers is odd. Its either one or two ohms and they do not work well with normal head units. After a lot of testing, I ditched all of the BOSE stuff from my car and put in a Pioneer head unit and new speakers.

I think that most people do not rate the BOSE units any more and have replaced them.

My rear speakers(stock with amps) have stopped working since I put my Sony CD in!
