Am i the only one on here that has problems with detonation when running at 1 bar of boost. I have had to turn the boost down to about 12.5 to get it to stop. The car has got exhaust, air filter, chip and hybrid turbos. Surely even tho it has bigger turbos it will still run at the pressure that the evc4 says.

try getting am air/fuel reader,at least then you will see wats happening and when .

im not expert but 1bar of boost is the max i would run at.

maybe you should look at bigger injectors (555)

if ya turbos are bigger you will need the extra fuel the injectors should provide!

1 bar may be a bit optomistic for hot weather. Which chip, what fuel and what is your base ignition timing set to ?

Am using optimax all the time on a se chip. SE nissan adjusted the timing when it was fitted to about 4deg but since then i have adjusted it to about 13-15deg because it sems to run with less detonation. It is not just when hot tho it has been like this ever since i have had the chip fitted. It has been back and altered but still does it.

Hmmm, AFAIK their chip is intended to be base lined at 15 deg. Is is really detonating or could it be a different noise ?

Anyway, I'd get back to them pronto, before damage is done.

i had the same trouble while using an ecu (veilside one) from japan is the chip from over there.

SE adjust the timing to non standard when they want to remove detination and they don't know how to really cure the problem. This removes a load of power retarding the ignition. 4deg is CRAZY, must be like driving a non-turbo.

Your turbo upgrade will pull more air through the system than stock. So 1 bar is probably exceeding the original injectors limit when under load, not giving enough fuel, causing detination and damage. Borrow someone's ecu monitor to see what the injector duel cycle is like, anything over 90% is too much. Whatever you do, a 555cc injector upgrade is something you need. I would personally only reccomend the Nismos.

What fuel are you using, if UL try SUL (97 RON) or better still Optimax (98.6 RON). will help, possibly cure.

You are better off running lower bost, that retarding ignition, as that fooks up off boost driveability.

It might be that your head have been skimmed in the past so running higher CR, or you could have too hotter plugs.

"too hotter plugs"? Don't plugs all work the same? God not something else to worry about.

No plugs are temperature rated.

I'm running (In my S13) 2 grades colder Denso Iridiums, yeah something else to worry about.

Colder the plug less likely hood of detting, but too cold you get bad idle and coke build up.

Not mega sure of the Zed outlook on this, but might be worth asking someone that knows the Zed lump properly, doesn't seem to be anyone left on the board that might know. RC perhaps, they know what they are doing I belive?

A mates S13 was detting all the time after a mild boost upgrade (10 - 12psi) I lent him some 8's to try, they cured it but the plugs that were in were a 5, which is a grade hotter than the std 6.

Mucking around with plug grades and gapping usually sorts out problems with high boost misfires. I would be cautious about attacking det via that route....IMO
