rebuild costs

how much would it cost to rebuild an engine which is smokey, and what would be involved, and how much to replce turbos? reason why i ask is im going to get a zed soon dont know wether to get one cheap with a smokey motor and have it done up so its mint or wether to just get one which is good. what do you think?

Featured Replies

if you buy to do up! you'll probably pay more for the rebuild than the car itself.

i paid 7.5k for a full rebuild and new uprated turbo's,with a few other upgrades for strengthening the engine.

just buy a good one to start off with,it'll save you big buckz and probably 3 months waiting for parts to arrive for a rebuild.jay

As an example to replace turbos I think SE Nissan charge ยฃ650 to remove the engine and change the turbos.

Regarding a general engine rebuild I'am not sure. I too would be interested.

ย

I take it you would be after a rebuild to near standard spec nothing too wild?

ย

Someone on here must have had a near standard rebuild. Come on lads speak up

ย

Leigh has recommended a place, Simon(WillyEd) has had a rebuild done I think(not sure where or how much).

And I think Chris Wilson(from Supra Site) maybe able to help(not sure if he has experience with the VG30).

Also I think Steve E once mentioned he also had contacts for rebuilds(but this was a while ago wink.gif ).

ย

Jay what spec did you get your engine rebuilt too mate, and when was it done?

I thought about it when mine went boom, but I was offered a few secondhand engines from ยฃ750+ so I chose one for ยฃ1,200 with a good history and so far is working out great. Cost for taking the old engine out for inspection, swopping performance bits from old engine to new one and putting all back together cost me a bil of ยฃ2,800 from Nissan and also the ยฃ1,200 for the engine, so I was well pleased.

The above is a company called CTM.

Speak with Charlie he is the company owner.

They are below Burton Power Products.

ย

He builds F3, Touring cars, and Rally cars engines. Does a lot of work with FORD RALLY team. So gets very busy before a new season.

ย

He can do anything you want, but will need the engine delivered. If you can part strip it then it saves on time and cost as well.

ย

If you want to install cams then give him those as well, and he will match the heads to suit.

ย

Best place I know of.

Steve E, and Warren have used a company called PROGRESS in Maidstone, Kent.

ย

Warren I believe is happy, and STEVE E is burning oil, but this could be due to bore wash, as the JWT chip is over fuelling.

Leigh

Good info Leigh - made note of those names and numbers.

ย

Warren/Steve E is that Progress Engineering?
