Well first off our Mitsubishi Grandis is a great family MPV, but I'm sure it listens to every single word I say and that's when it starts to play games

The other month somebody asked about good MPV's and I piped up with "The Mitsubishi Grandis is a good family wagon, 7 seats, this is our 2nd one and it hasn't missed a beat....."

then less than 24hrs later I'm waiting for the AA to turn up just after leaving bobgenie's place as the the Grandis decided that it didn't need it's alternator pulley anymore and opted to send it flying around the engine bay instead!

so eventually (after 3 different AA vans/transporters) I dropped the MPV off near the Mitsubishi garage and the following morning asked for a quote.

Mitsubishi wanted £450+ in parts and £100 labour

ebay wanted £100 for parts including 8am delivery next day....it was a no brainer, Mitsubishi fitted my parts!

yesterday I had someone come around and take our little estate car (that we're selling) for a test drive and I commented again, that apart from the alternator pulley issue, it (the Grandis) hadn't given us any problems.....big mistake, it heard me!!!

Today on the way back from an appointment the Grandis felt really sluggish, I then noticed that the glow plug warning light was flashing!!

So a quick glance on ebay showed Bosch parts at about £12 a piece, so with this information in hand I phoned up the Mitsubishi garage.....

they want near as damn it £40 'per glow plug' and have quoted £350 for labour (coincidentally the exact figure that my wife predicted just 10 minutes before I made the call)

and in addition to that, a £30 diagnostic was recommended just to ensure that the glow plug warning light was actually warning that there was a problem with the glow plugs???

They could squeeze us in mid next week.....

Me thinks this'll be a DIY job

They certainly know how to charge !! Dunno if the same applies here, but on the Mondeo I just sold, the glowplug light flashed to give advance warning of possible future serious problems. Wasnt related to the glow plugs at all, but turned out to be an injector fault ! That became apparent when the glowplug light flashed, and after a few weeks of intermittent flashing, the EML light came on and the car cut out. Maybe a diagnostic scan wouldnt be a bad idea just to be sure ?

Probably different, but you never know !

Alan..........

Funnily enough, i went to a mitsi garage today for an 80amp glow plug fuse, they wanted £10.80+vat and i would have to wait till tomorrow, so i sorted it myself, they also wanted £98 +vat for the glow plug solenoid, which i got from a scrappy for nowt. I find most main dealers are a complete rip off.

Start soaking those glow plugs in penetrating fluid asap, they get stuck and can snap off easy

Maybe it (the Grandis) heard me muttering under my breath last night, making reference to scrapping it's stupid ass', but ever since then the 'problem' seems to have vanished without a trace?

There's no warning light, no sluggishness and she starts up and drives as well as ever.....very confused??????

Whenever my Calibra was threatened with the scrapyard in the sky she would develope self healing properties!.For about 2 years the heater control panel light never worked (p.i.t.a do sort out), and immediately after a rant at her the bulb lit up and from then on worked as it should!, and thats just one instance like that. The best one was a misfire that I couldnt track down despite changing the plugs, leads and coilpack etc, shouted that the "f#@king thing can go for scrap!" and the misfire instantly stopped!!!.......and never did it again.
