hi all. Just wondered if my pcvs could been cleaned as a bit of white smoke on start up and tic over or is it easier to just buy new..

Short answer is; yes the valves can be cleaned so can the pipes. Just slosh some petrol around them and it will clean them out. I doubt that it's your PCV's causing the white smoke problem though. White smoke is condensation related, pcvs tend to be blue/black and smell of oil. Best case is it's just some vapour burning off in the exhaust and it will go away on it's own. That said you may have a problem with a leaking head gasket. Best get a sniffer test done on the engine to be sure.

called a block test, you can buy the kit from ebay, consists of a bottle of tester fluid, a tube with rubber cone on one end and a squeezy pump on the other.

Best thing to do is check the rad level when cold if its low enough, start the engine with the rad cap off, let the car come up to temp, get your fluid and fill the glass tube to the mark, stick the cone end into the rad filler hole (on the zed you need to clamp off the over flow tube) and pump the squeezy at the top for around a min, if the fluid in the tube stays blue, no leak, if the fluid in the tube goes yellow, then you have exhaust gases getting into the system and your head gasket could be at fault.

Only thing i will say is though, if you have gases escaping into the coolant system, you will usually have over heating along with it.

Is the white smoke only on start up? could just be condensation, if you are getting loads of white smoke, lumpy rough idle, over heating then id say head gasket.
