Well it just gets better n better does my car. Get one thing fixed and watch something else brake.

So i noticed what started as a little crack on my windscreen and over the last week its grown.

So i call my insurance company who arrange for autoglass to come out and replace it.

Only when he gets here he tells me that he has the wrong glass. They got a blue window with no top blue visor tint.

And then proceeds to look at the window surround and tells me it looks a little rusty in the middle and could take the glass out, but unless i go to a bodyshop and have it repaired there he wouldnt refit it.

So i tell him i do all my own bodywork, and i will do the repair and then he can replace the glass. But this isnt good enough for autoglass and he tells me unless its done by a bodyshop they wouldnt refit it.

So i told him to be on his way as hes not gonna be touching my zed today.

So now i got 2 options

1, find a screen and replace it myself

2, pay out big bucks for bodyshop

am so annoyed.

No, he said they would require proof of fixing, ie receipt. As they've now seen it.

The window frame is fine tho. Ive cleaned it up and its still red paint under the dirt. I know, there will be a little rust as its 22yr old so its to be expected.

Does your insurance company deal with anyone else? I called mine and they did autoglass and national windscreens as well and I could contact them direct then they sort it out with the insurance company giving you the option to repair it yourself then get them round to fit the new screen with them being none the wiser. Otherwise do you know someone who can write you a receipt and you do the job yourself?

the guy obviously didnt want to do the work as that is the biggest load of cobblers ive heard, when i had my windscreen replace all they did when they see the rust was advice me that it may not seal and that "eventually" ill need to get that looked at, made me sign a disclaimer about them telling me it may leak and did the job, it never leaked and annoyingly the windscreen that only saw 4 miles on the road got crushed with the shell when it went to the big scrap yard in the sky.

How much dosh you got to play with? mine cost £219 fitted with vat by a independent windscreen repair specialist near me, MUCH cheaper than auto glass, even if you are going through your insurance it still might be worth getting it done independently from them

its an autoglass rule, not the first time i've heard it, if there is even a trace of rust they wont touch it...

i got a local company to do mine, they put some treatment on the rust and fitted a new screen for 165 inc vat iirc. was a uk blue screen though, jap brown was alot more and a long wait

Autowindscreens did mine on my insurance (£80 excess), initially said they could only supply a uk spec blue screen (mines JDM), but the guy at the depot that dealt with mine runs a Skyline and sourced a JDM bronze screen for me and the guys that fitted it did a superb job.

I rung my insurance up after i sent autoglass packing.

They say they only deal with autoglass but i can get a independant 2nd opinion and they will see what they can do.

I will ring a few up over the next few days. Can you post up numbers of people youve used with the prices please, will give me some starting calls to try.

i would but unless you bring the car to Northampton lol not sure they will travel that far as the company i used was local

Had the windscreen replaced on friday by a local company who came and did it at home for me.

Must of been the cheapest repair on the z ever.

£164.40 all in. So question is, where the hell did autoglass get there price of £561.00 just for the glass!!!.

While window was out made most of it by tidying up the scuttle panels with a nice few coats of black gloss, so all looks nice and tidy again.

result!!!

I had to buy a screen for my mr2 out of my own pocket and that was £680, I had it in for one day then a car going the other wat threw a stone up and chiped it so i had to pay out another £75 to get that sorted :(
