Clutches

My clutch has now got to the point where it slips in every gear except 1st and 2nd, so I guess it's about time to replact it?

Just wondering what uprated ones anyone has tried, where you got them and what they cost. I remember people mentioning AP or ACT at the slough meet.

Just want something that's still drivable, not too harsh on the take up.

Cheers

John,

I have a list of companies in the states that will do a deal on the ACT clutches.

This is the best deal I got, and he said in a second email he would send as a gift, so you wont get stung for Import tax.

Hello,

I would reccommend NX8-HDMM. Its good for 432 ft/lbs

of torque. The price of the clutch would be $420. Now,

this clutch is one of the biggest ones ive seen. It

weighs 21lbs. So, for shipping, it would be $85. Thats

very expensive, but the best rate I could find. Please

let me know so we can work out some payment options.

Thank You

ROB

I have a ACT dual plate clutch which is very good - a little bitey and i haven't thrown more than 9psi at it yet but a very high quality kit.

If your going to upgrade - it will be heavier than stock. I would also check your slave/master cylinders and your pivot fork to make sure they are all in top condition before you replace the cluthc as they will be doing more work to shift the extra weight !

Other Options are RPS and JWT - I wouldn't go for a clutch that didn't have a sprung hub BTW !

God is coming ...and he dont have stock turbos . . .

John, Nico spot on with the sprung hub bit and replacing other bits too, the clutch Leigh mentioned is a bit basic at 432 pounds of torque and at that price, RPS sports are cheaper slightly and start at 540 pounds of torque, i'm just waiting to hear back from someone soon before i order 2 uprated jobbies next week, mail me if interested and i'll give you the different options available

cheers

Hi Smithy,

I dont know of any ZEDS on here with more than 430 lbs/ft of torque. The clutch you mentioned wouldnt be suitable for a daily driver. Also the RPS has a bad reputation for not being up to the spec, and slipping very early on. The ACT on the other hand are known for being very good.

I invested a lot of time speaking to many people before choosing. For an ACT clutch you wont get much cheaper, price ranged up to $600, and NO LIMITS were cheaper for shipping as well.

Cheers for the replys guys.

Martinfa, what sort of Bhp are you running on the AP clutch ?

martinfa, do you by any chance have the part number for the AP friction plate??

Would be very helpful to me if you do.

Cheers.

Robert.

I only use the brakes so I can accelerate all over again.

So what do these clutches give you over a standard one? A standard clutch can be got from Courtesy for around $300 + shipping + import tax.

I was about to order one when I noticed this post - my Zed is only slightly up on standard (Exhaust with Cats and air filter) with no further plans, so I'm assuming I'll be alright.

Cheers chappies (and chapesses)

Ya' big shandy drinker - give it some !

John, I am currently (when back on the road after my little incident wink.gif) only running an induction kit and custom built pipes. I have had the car chipped but hadn't fitted a boost controller or jets, which I do plan to do when I get the car back. So i guess my bhp is around the 300 mark at the flywheel.

Robert sorry mate I havn't received any paperwork and havent even paid for it yet. Johnny will be able to give you the details.

Stu, you may be ok, I wouldn't really know but if you want a reasonable start and confidence that your clutch wont give up get an uprated one. For an extra £100 or so its gotta be worth it.

IIRC the AP can hold around 430 lbs/ft of torque.

Cheers

Martin

I bought an HKS tripple plate clutch kit of GPS a couple of weeks ago, it comes with an lightened hks flywheel and a work of art clutch which is made up of at least 7 or 8 separate pieces! A new relese berring and carrier are needed and any body saw my car at Max Live last weekend will know that it can handel the power! HKS, rate it at around 1000BHP, I believe them!

Give the ginger one at GPS a call (01942)671239 and get it ordered, it is the only clutch for a moded Z, Its the dogs balls, and I would recomend it to anybody! Very expencive but well worth every penny!
