Boot Prep - Take two!

I originally started building my ICE install in the Black and yellow Z but it's since been scrapped so here we go again in the grey one. All the false floor that I built is now pretty much destroyed as it wasnt intended to come out again really, and once sound deadening material is fitted, it isnt coming off again.

After a long time waiting for the necessary welding in the boot to get done on the grey Z, I can finally get on with it again. Ive already got all the wiring in and test fit things but it sounds rubbish compared to how it was with the deadening and dampening.

This time, I have chosen to go for the more expensive option of fat mat extreme. I am really glad I did as Ive discovered there is FAR less waste, is easier to apply, and even though you wont see it in the end, it looks much better too!

First, right propper clean out of the boot, even polished it, got rid of any rust and treated it.

This stuff is going up the sides, inside the boot lid (although not the one that's on the car at the moment), under the rear seats and in the doors etc so I have a fair bit to do yet. My poor back cant take any more today though! :)

Thanks Gary :)

The sound deadening going away on the tailor in the yellow Z was the one thing that hurt because it was the one thing I couldnt take off and re-use. The old job looked shocking in comparison to this though. It's proven that poor quality material in this case just isn't worth it and I'm thinking the 40square foot I bought may stretch the whole car now. The 'waste' is also nearly all usable too. Mostly cut off where I wanted a 1 inch rise on the edges neatly ready for the next lot.

Roughly how do you reckon that 40sq ft weighs Rose? Will it do the whole floor, doors, rear arches etc?

The weight of it isnt anywhere near as much as the stuff I had before. How far it goes, we will find out. My brain doesnt work in square feet am afraid, but I'm optimistic that with what's left after covering that large main area, it's going to go a long way yet. :)

Thanks, keep us updated on how far it does go as im keen on doing mine further down the line and knowing how much to buy would be handy

I used 2 rollls 52sqft and have a few sq feet left and still didnt do the floor in the cabin lol

I wish I knew how to make stuff from fibreglass, can't wait to see the boot build. In fact the next time I'm passing I might stop by to see it if your both free :-)

I'd like to know as well. Any chance you could do a 'how to' step by step thread Rose when you do your next master piece? I've only ever used fibre glass in a roofing application using big rolls.

I'll keep you updated. There is not a lot I can do due to Japspeed sending out an obviously broken and meticulously repaired for appearance b rand new radiator at the moment.... thus the car is still on axle stands all weekend and I can't get near it. Right now, I feel their customer service sucks as the manager is too busy to speak to Alex, the 'box' was a makeshift one with not even the top taped up and delivered with the packing slip the wrong way up, so it arrived with it's rad cap on the floor.

I had a good look at my pics of the boot install for 10 mins today and am still trying to finalise some crazy ideas. I am not painting it until all the wiring and components are sorted. :)

(and I wrote all that with mother on the phone)

must be a one off as i have had stuff from japspeed and the service was second to none, nice guy to chat to aswell, bought my first exhaust from them

as for the boot build, looking forward to the pics, does that dynamat stuff really make a difference, what does it actually do?

yeh, with Japspeed, Alex is saying pretty much the same thing and defending them. What is annoying is, we offered to pay ANOTHER 140quid (soz kiwi keyboard - no pound sign) for another new rad in the meantime... and they refused! We even offered to take the value in other parts. We just want the damn car to be 'right'. I came home from Leeds watching a merc on the motorway with it's top down... yet was driving essentially a bus for nearly 60 miles. Grrar :)

I'm really hoping to get some final plans for the boot build together this weekend. I have the old now dishevelled boot build floor here and need to build a new one yet aswell. If the blinking thing is in the air, it makes it a bit hard though. :)
