Chicken shit conversions?

Has anyone on here had a chicken shit conversion (L.P.G) done on their 300? And if so what is the power loss etc? I dont fancy the loss of power, but it would be good to switch on the motorwayto run on 35p a litre fart power, then go back to petrol when needed.Any BHP figures anyone knows would certainly be interesting.

Is it right that these tings are 'dual fuel'? so you could switch fuels from inside the car while still on the move? or do you have to get under the bonnet?

ello!! smile.gif

I know someone who's got this done to a 3.6 xjs!!!

and when driving it with somebody else flicking the switch between gas and petrol,i couldn't tell which was which!!!!!!!!!!!

these gas systems have come along way since the early systems that used to burn valves etc....

p.s its only propane they use,so get your bottles from BOC hang them upside down in the garage a 12volt electric fuel pump and fill'em that way even cheaper(take safety precations)this is what the guy does who as the jag!!!!!!

yes it can be fitted to a standard 300TT aswell as a NA,look around at the different systems the one from belgium are the best(sorry no links)ALSO there are natural gas systems(even cheaper)but these are still very new and not all cars are capable of running it!!!!(with standard valves)but maybe in the future??????

ello again smile.gif

most new cars will automaticly??(spelling)

start on petrol and then flick to gas if there is any in there, till that runs out then resort to petrol again!! with a nice array of buzzers and bells to inform you of shit thts going off!!!

and if they have a manually switchible system it's done from inside the car!!

ok

Isn't there a slight problem with the cars errrrm, blowing up if they are in a collision though?

I made quite a few enquiries about this. My conclusion at the time was that some people were saying "yes, it can be done" but I struggled to find evidence of a seriouslt high performance car having had a conversion and then run for a long time.

In terms of power, I test drove a Shogun with a conversion. Like others have said, I couldn't tell.

One other important point - if you're gonna get a decent range, the tank is 'kin big and I doubt there's anywhere other than the boot where it would go. And even that might be a struggle with the lack of depth.

My conclusion was that if I had it done then I'd be playing guinea pig and I wasn't prepared to do that.
