Hi everyone.

My tax expires at the end of this month, but it is possible to declare a SORN after the 5th. It's still MOT'd and insured, but I'm worried that I can't drive it the minute I SORN it. Is this true or will the SORN just 'kick in' at the end of the month?

The only reason I want to do this early is so I don't forget at the end of the month and end up giving the government an £80 gift!

Cheers,

Dave

You can do it online and its registered instantly i believe, so no need to sorn till weds.

You can drive it if its taxed...Sorn will be from Thurs when the tax runs out. Your following the rules and have paid till next wed.

This rule was all about getting untaxed and unisured vehicles off the road, not restricting law abiding people!

you should be good m8

my tax ran out on the 31st jan declared sorn on the 28th

wnt out once on the 30th(coz i really had to) got pulled by the traffic..came up on theyr comp that it was sornd but coz the tax was still legal the just moved me on

wont work every time but..

hope that helps..dono if traffic laws are different each side of the border

you can drive an Non taxed/mot car only to a Prearranged MOT appointment even if its been Sorn ( long as u have insurance )

but i think think u can not drive it to the local post office to get tax ..

Thanks for all your advice. I need to use it a couple of times, so I'll just remember to SORN it before the last day of this month!

Dave

yes but that's right ...

but you are only allowed it drive it to MOT station ...

if your car is out of MOT u can not get Tax ...

Sorry Mark that wasn't supposed to sound like I was contradicting you, just a reply to the original post
