Driveshaft removal

Well I've done some searching and can't find anything that really helps with my current situation

All of the rear arms are now off the SWB and the HICAS arm has successfully been seperated from the rear ball joint.

The intention was to heat and beat the ball joint/bush out whilst it was on the car, however that is looking very unlikely.

So I decided to remove the hub. I bought the 36mm socket that was required but typically it's not possible to undo this whilst the arms are removed, as the hub just turns on the driveshaft

So option three is to remove the dive shaft from the diff and heat and beat the ball joint out in a vice....

My question is this, can the driveshaft be removed by simply (or not) removing these bolts attaching the drive shaft to the diff?

or are there more bolts that also need to be removed?

*I've read elsewhere that the transmission support bar needs to be removed along with the rear section of the exhaust*

Once these bolts are removed is it just a case of tapping with a hammer to free it?

Yes you can just undo those bolts from the driveshaft to diff, and it will just come off, the two halves are basically flat, so it should just fall apart, but, make sure you put a mark on the two halves to make sure they go on in the same place, dunno if that is necessary, but i always do...

EDIT : When I said 'fall apart', I meant 'come apart', don't want you thinking shit and gubbins will go everywhere!

This ^^^^^ was fine with the gerabox fitted

Next question,

How would you go about removing the driveshaft from a zed with the gearbox removed?

Obviously it can't be 'locked off in gear' in the same way, that is possible when the gearbox is fitted

i wouldn't bother undoing all the bolts around the drive shaft as it only pops out of the diff ... that way u dont need to remove the exhaust to gain space for the bolts and u dont damage the bolts as well

you may loose a little oil but and i do mean a little

The current situation is this:

The SWB driveshafts are off the car, so that I could get the hubs into a vice in order to remove the stock ball joints, however one of the knuckles has taken a bit of a pounding in the process.

I have a spare set of knuckles still fitted to the LWB that have the ball joints removed already so I am considering swapping these over, the only problem is that the gearbox is no longer on the LWB and so I have no way of removing the driveshafts (as they keep spinning)

The DW Geomaster2 option is not looking good as the HKS coilovers that I bought just as a trial fit, are not looking very promising (the top plate is a lot larger than that of the Z32 Teins and they need a bit of tidying up)

So I figure that as a way of getting the car on track sooner rather than later, a spare set of knuckles with DW bushes fitted would be the simplest option right now
