On my 91 jap import the two inner rear brake lights have been used for fog lights so they only come on with fog lights or side lights.

Is this how they are converted for English roads

PS How do the front side light bulbs below the headlamps come out for replacement

1) Yes, that's one of the ways to convert to UK. Others fit a separate fog (yuk), others use the centre brake light, others do clever stuff to make the inner brake lights work normally when fog light is off. I think JeffTT does this

 

2) To get to the sidelight, remove the indicator (from the back) and then remove the foglight unit which houses the sidelight.

 

Someone else please confirm (2). I've done it but it was a couple of years ago ! Three 10 mm nuts comes to mind on the back of the foglight unit.

 

Having said that, once the indicator was out, it was fairly obvious.
