Starter motor not Dis-engaging

hi guys,

 

I think my Starter motor is not working properly, it starts the car but when i turn right or accelarate hard it it makes a realy loud crunching noise.

 

someone i spoke to said it could the starter not dis-engaging properly and that it could be catching on the fly wheel. if this is the case can the starter be reconditioned and where abouts on the car is it located so that i can take it off.
