Parking/HICAS

Hi All,

Is there a diagnostic for the HICAS system? Parallel parking in my 2+2 Jap Auto 90 is bl**dy awful. I generally end up going in frontwards and bumping up the kerb.

Is this the same for everyone or am I/my car just being crap!?

Cheers!!

Hicas doesn't work at speeds that low, so it must be your parking abilities wink.gif

Try you wheel alignment. Also take more water with it!

The Hicas diagnostics are in the faq of www.twinturbo.net but as has been said, it does not work at that speed.

nope, your just being crap!!

the shitty steering lock doesnt help tho - ive driven coaches with smaller turning circles!! biggrin.gif

I feel the need, the need for speed!

Yes there is a diag for the HICAS, but its quite hard to do. Its like an old Sega Mega drive cheat where you have to press a 50 combo of buttons in 1/2 a seconds. biggrin.gif

Any way the offical diag says.

Turn on the ignition and start the engine.

Make sure the car is out of gear or on Park for Autos.

Within 10 seconds of the engine starting, turn the steering wheel left 20° past central and 20° right past central 5 times and return to centre.

Then pump the brake peddle 5 times.

All this has to be done in less than 10 seconds.

The HICAS light should come on. This is in Diag mode. If not turn the engine off and try again.

If you then turn the wheel 20° past central left or right and leave it there, this will cause the rear wheels to test movement and will turn left and right until you return the wheel to centre.

The movement is very small, but if you tape something straight through the diameter of the wheel so it stick out over the edge of the wheel. You should see the end of the stick, or what ever, move.

To get a full Diagnostics, go into diag mode, then drive the car forward for about 20 yards at less than 10mph. The HICAS light will then flash error codes.

Stuarts Tip

Doing the left right 5 times then pumping the pedal 5 times is really hard to do. So this is what I do and workds 90% of the time.

This is what I do:

Start the engine,

Turn the wheel left right past 20° continusely as fast as you can and at the same time pump the brake pedal as fast as you can. The HICAS light should come on. If its not on within 5-6 seconds. Start again.

My brothers VTEC prelude has rear wheel steering and it turns loads when you reverse park - its lovely. Shame Nissan didn't take a leaf out of their book!

OK, thanks guys.

It was meant as a rhetorical question Paul!;-)

Please see my post today which may be related....

Cheers,

RobH, one thing that I noticed when I bought the car is that 3 point turns become more like 7 point turns!, unless of course you do a, (ahem), tyre smoking turn, bit more expensive on the old tyres though!!.
