tracking question

hi guys, today while talking to a mate at a garage, one of his mates commented on my car that my trackin was out?

i then went and asked him why he thought this,he said that my front tyre was feathered,as i havnt a clue what he was on about ,and im not that sure that he did either, can anyone explain wat he meant?

he then went on to explain that he wouldnt need to put my car on the ramp,as he could sort my trackin out on a jack(after he had looked at the wheel arch and apparently found my track rod ends)

now recently im sure i read about trackin and i think it said only take to someone who no's there zeds as trackin is a lot more complicated on our cars?

can anyone explain to me the difference in zed car trackin to any other car?

as i would like to go back and take the piss outa this guy who im sure has never even seen a zed bfr never mind worked on one!

any help and advice would be appreciated.thanks jay

As far an I know there is nothing different about the tracking on our cars than others. They are all set the same way. Loosen the track rod, adjust and tighten.

My local garage track it on the ground, but they do balls it up. The wheel is never straight after. 3 cars I have taken there for tracking and all 3 ended up with the wheel to the right. I took it to a place in Bolton to get my tracking done a few months ago. Cost £33 for 4 wheel independent tracking. Most places just line up the rear with the front. But now my wheel is straight, and the rear tyres are now wearing evenly.

The first thig to do is to get a proper full wheel alignment check done. Not every tire place is capable / competent.

You should check at least for

a) personal recommendations in your area

b) computerised laser jobbie in the workshop

c) ask to see the page for your car in their settings book (you can cross reference with the 300zx manual to really worry them!)

d) ask them when the last time their equipment was calibrated / serviced ( at least once a year).

Also search on this form for camber to see other stories.
