Just wondering if anyone drifted their 300?

It's not something I've been able to find much evidence of so just wondering if I'm looking in the wrong place or if there is a reason why people don't...?

My 350z drifts lovely but is worth too much to me to be driven in that manner too often.......

My 300 is also of value to me but isn't worth as much (just before anyone gets offended) :hang:

I get that an N/A 300 has an open diff but is there some other reason that people don't seem to drift these cars?

To me it seems an ideal candidate for the task really???

What do you guys think? :)

Not sure if you've seen it recently, Matt's just welded in his cage and it looks pretty good, with a contrasting Takata green interior and white exterior

id like to see that..

do you know if he's still planning on the edc this year

is he a new entry ?

never seen him the last few years..unless he misses out knockhill..quite a driver though

Its the International Drift Series (IDS) and European drift championship. I dont really follow Drifting, so dont know how that relates to the UK series.

I've been quite lucky in that I've owned quite a few of popular nissan 'drifting' cars. 2x s13 silvias, 3xs13 200x, 1x180sx type S, 1xs14a, 1xz32 and had a few 'fun' shots of my buddies R34 gtt. I have to say out of all of them the z32 and r34 are by far the most controllable and to me, appropriate to drifting. The s platforms are hugely twitchy without some serious suspension work - my n/a 1.8 s13 silvia was probably the easiest to 'get it right' as the power was linear and controllable (I use the word 'power' very loosely here), at 19 I was able to fishtail really well for ages and hold slides around huge corners with no prior experience. This was before I'd heard of the whole 'drift' scene and just enjoyed having a play. Since then the R34 and the Z32 are the only cars I've felt confident in giving it some hell. The z32 with some wide wheels, a locked/2 way diff and some stiffer suspension would be a riot! But they are also designed to knock out serious speed, and given the difficultly in maintenance for sports like drifting I would suggest sticking to what it's designed for and go for a more fix-friendly nissan for drifting.

I've converted for Front wheel drive for now as the gf is learning to drive (got a nice '91 crx vtec) but sorely tempted to pick up a cheap s13 or FC should the opportunity arise.

That sounded slightly contradictory -The Z32 is very well suited for drifting compared to some of the more popular cars, but if doing it regularly then save yourself the ballache and get something easier to fix at the side of the road/track.

ah! well that is interesting!

though im still having it altered :)

With regards to suitability for drifting, i definately groan anytime i look in the engine bay of the z32 ha ha.

but with it being the N/A, i thought if it goes pop i may just drop the engine out and have a proper tinker/tt swap..... though hopefully if wont.

I do get the "sell it and buy a tt" point of view before anyone says :)

but i think the N/A will be suitably powerfull for the task i have in mind

Soon as i get chance i will get some pics up of my car but my plans are:

New rear tyres on the Enkei racing s 17" alloys that are on the car

Coilovers/ some kind of lowering to stiffen the chassis

Diff tinkering to ease the sliding process :)

Probably strut braces (to stop the car folding in from the corners ha ha)

Then DEFINATELY some extra breathing for the engine bay area :)

I agree with the fixability issues arrised about the z32 and it being a pig if it goes pop at the side of the track etc, but this car will not be relied on for anything other than fun.

I have the 350z and an E30 bmw for the daily hacks (e30 is super cool old school and lazy auto! ha ha) but i also have a Yamaha R6 to play around with so if the z32 does go pop i can happily take my time getting it back on the scene and use the r6 on track in the cars down time :)
