Tickover

Hi Guy's

Wonder if you can help. I'm on my second ZXTT and both have had this annoying problem (first TT got chopped in half when the back stepped out and hit a Mondeo in the other direction! - won 4 x Toyos from Max Power for Star Letter though so that was OK)

Problem is with tick over. It is usually about 800rpm with air-con switched on, and drops to about 600-700 with air-con off. Frequently jumps to 1100+ for no reason. Wouldn't be such a problem but most of my jorneys are in the rush hour at Hangar Lane!! This means I launch towards the car in front all the time and have to drag the brakes. Had a full 60K service by Nissan main dealer (oh dear) and they had no idea what it could be.

No, most Nissan dealers have no idea if they have to think about it.

Its a common problem and most are sorted by a few simple things.

Take out your water temperature sensor and give it a good clean.

Clean the throttle bodies with Carb cleaner.

Clean the throttle position sensor and reset it back to the correct position.

These are the simplest things and may cure your problem/

I had a similar problem on mine and it was the temperature sensor near the front of the engine. It could be a loose wire or in my case the unit was replaced and was fine.

You could try the ecu diagnostic, but this did not show up a problem on mine.

You may also want to clean the throttle bodies as I know that some times these stick slightly open that can lead to fast idling.

Cheers for the tips!
