Not my Zed, my sisters Daewoo Matiz.

Yesterday i changed the front pads on my sisters car and thought as a precaution i'd bleed the brakes too....oh how i wish i hadnt!

The problem i'm having is there is NOTHING coming out, no air, no brake fluid, nothing! Pump the pedal and it goes straight to the floor with very little resistance. I've tried everything i can think of. First i tried only bleeding the front calipers, then as that didnt work, tried bleeding them all in sequence, furthest from master cylinder to the closest, no joy. I even tried attaching a hand pump (that sucks) to the bleeding hose to try and suck the fluid out and nothing!! Theres no leaks in the system that i can see, no fluid coming out from any of the pipes. I'm at a total loss!!

Anyone got any idea's? Need to get it sorted ASAP, the car is needing for work and to carry my infant nephew around.

Did you let the master cylinder fluid drop low? may have air in the main body,

perhaps worth just cracking the outlet pipes at the cylinder and try to push a little fluid out.

Did you remove the filler cap by the way? may be air locked.

Could be the master cylinder has hyperextended (gone past its normal travel and popped the seals on the piston), had this on a Capri years ago and was a p.i.t.a to sort out

The lid was off and had plenty of fluid in at all times.

That's what i was thinking, if there's nothing coming out of the bleed nipples, not even air, the pressure must be escaping from somewhere, and if there's no leaking pipes, it could only be the master cylinder couldn't it?

Mmm..did you push the pads back when changing the pads without opening the bleed nipples, if so its not unusual for the brake master cylinder seals to flip around as mentioned above, also when bleeding, the piston seals travel further down the cylinder than normal and can get nicked by any rough spots caused by debris or corrosion from mositure in the fluid.

If this is the case the master cylinder will need replacing or new seals, always a pain when trying to do the right thing when it ends up going wrong.

As Jeff says, when pushing the caliper pistons back, the M/cyl seals can reverse. You only really know there is something wrong when you put your foot on the brake pedal and get extended travel. Which might be taken upa bit by pumping.

It can lead you to think you have air in the system, so you try bleeding the brakes, without success. I have experienced and witnessed it in a few cars, twice in Vauxhalls. The seals might flip back, but more often you'll have to strip the M/cyl. Good luck with it

No ABS on this model.

Took the old master cylinder off this morning and bought a new master cylinder so i'm going to replace that and see how it goes. Only £40, i hope it fixes the problem!!
