Engine Coolant.

After a little drive today I noticed green water, which I think is coolant, dripping from the front of the passenger side. It looks like its coming from behind the intercooler. The radiator water level is fine, but I will keep my eye on it.

Any ideas what it could be? Had the coolant bottle broke or could it just be a split pipe?

Any help please. Thanks.

That is where the excess tank is it think.

just open your radiater and close it again, could solve the problem.

built up air bubble or something in radiater.

this has worked for me.

Stuart,

Check the tightness of the bottom hose clamp wink.gif Could be a leaky rad, or it could even be a leaking expansion tank...

BTW - Another do at duff towers this weekend (saturday) if you're up for it wink.gif

Duff Towers? Wheres that?

The leak did seem to occur after a very sharp fast turn off a road. And when I opened the radiator loads of bubbles appeared like a fizzy drink.

Duff towers is Leyland m8 wink.gif

Fizzy coolant points to a leaking HG or cracked heads!!! I doubt it though - you'd know about it if it was. Sorry don't mean to shock wink.gif

My bet is either the bottom rad hose is split or the clamp has come loose. Is it loosing much???

Mine does this too - but not AFAIK the fizzy coolant appearance.

First few times it happened, Nelson did a pressure test on the whole system - nothing leaked. They then suggested a new rad cap (old one was getting flimp and loppy so could have been releasing pressure when it didn't need to.)

Bought and fitted - guess what? Still does it (but less often). Coolant level doesn't drop. No nasties in the oil, no nasties in the coolant, no temp problems. Just occasionally, there is this little puddle of green coolant just in front of the passenger side front wheel.

All baffled -> put on "pending file" for me at least for now.

Cheers - Gio

Stopped leaking. But I think there is an air lock in there somewhere. The coolant level is higher than what I put in and its mostly water.

DOH! For Saturday. Why do you lot always make meets when I am working and dont give enough time for to arrange time off. !! mad.gif

Stuart/Gio - it's a leaking expansion tank. I've had it on mine a few months ago and turned out that when the rad pumps excess coolant into the tank it can over-fill, causing the coolant to leak out where the filler tube meets the actual tank.

It's nothing to worry about.

Hope this puts your minds at ease.

Regards,

Danny
